Veteran Soap Star A Martinez Wraps Work on New Michael Bay Film

We haven’t seen veteran soap star A Martinez pop back up on daytime in a little bit, but the actor has kept himself plenty busy, filming a new movie with director Michael Bay.

A Martinez Wraps Feature Film

The beloved daytime star who played Eduardo on Days of our Lives, Roy on General Hospital, and Dr. Ramon Montgomery on The Bold and the Beautiful (and of course Cruz on Santa Barbara), took to social media to alert fans that his work on his new film role has wrapped.

“Waiting to be called from my dressing room this weekend, as I wrap work on Michael Bay’s movie, AMBULANCE,” Martinez wrote on Instagram, adding a selfie in the room for context. “Mr. Bay treats us here to a thoroughly wild, bird’s eye view, as two wounded, star–crossed brothers go for broke on the single day that will define their lives.

Based on a script by Chris Fedak, the film is an American remake of the popular 2005 Danish film of the same name.

In Ambulance, Jake Gyllenhaal and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II play two thieves who rob an ambulance occupied by a paramedic (played by Eiza González), and a patient in critical condition. Garret Dillahunt, Keir O’Donnell, and Moses Ingram also star.

Martinez was thrilled to be working with Bay, known for his high-action films like Armageddon, Pearl Harbor, and the Transformer films, and praised how he was able to get this made during the events of the last year.

Real-World Challenges

“With almost all of film production in Los Angeles shuttered to the early 2021 surge of COVID cases, it’s been a notable achievement for this project to have made it to the finish line,” the soap vet said. “The success wouldn’t have happened without a dedicated commitment to the established safety protocols: a steady stream of testing –– ubiquitous masking –– and the enforced physical separation of workers according to their tasks. Not to mention the care that everyone involved took, in their private lives, to limit the risk of infection.”

Not that it came without challenges. Martinez noted that these cautionary tactics have made the always challenging process of shooting a movie even more difficult than usual.

“But the extra effort has been a small price to pay in the grand scheme of things, and my spirit is coming to rest today with a sense of both joy and relief,” he said.

Ambulance is scheduled to be released by Universal Pictures on Feb. 18, 2022. Now that he’s wrapped that project, maybe it’s time for any one of his many soap characters to come back to daytime.
