Life was up and down over the last year for The Bold and the Beautiful’s Eric Forrester. However, right now, he’s happy in a relationship and so glad to be alive. In real life, actor John McCook celebrates a major milestone.
And that’s because he was born on June 20, 1944, in Ventura, California, which means this fan-favorite performer is turning a milestone 80 years old today! McCook began his acting career in musical theater, appearing in such productions as West Side Story, Barefoot in the Park, and Mame.
Between 1976 and 1980, McCook starred on The Young and the Restless as Lance Prentiss, one of the two heirs to the Prentiss family fortune and the top man at the eponymous company in Genoa City.
As Lance, McCook was heavily featured in a love quadrangle that also featured his brother, Lucas (Tom Ligon), Lorie (Jamie Lyn Bauer), and Leslie (Janice Lynde; Victoria Mallory). During his time on YR, McCook was frequently called upon to sing.
Upon his exit, McCook became a staple primetime television, and he racked up credits on programs such as Family Ties, Three’s Company, The Love Boat, Hotel, Fantasy Island, and Hill Street Blues.
McCook also appeared in several feature films — including My Blood Runs Cold, First to Fight, and There Was A Crooked Man — and made-for-television movies like The Rear Guard and Tourist.
In 1987, he agreed to join the inaugural cast of William J Bell’s newest effort, The Bold and the Beautiful. McCook has remained in the part ever since — making him one of two actors to do so — and his work has resulted in a number of Daytime Emmy Award nominations and a win for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 2022.
McCook’s other credits include guest appearances in CHiPS, Murder, She Wrote, The Love Boat, Too Close for Comfort, and Harper Valley P.T.A., as well as recurring roles in Code Name: Foxfire, Our House, and New Love, American Style.
Soap Hub would like to wish McCook a very happy birthday, and you can, too, by clicking on the X (formerly Twitter) link below.
