He’s been a cast member of The Bold And The Beautiful since day one as patriarch Eric Forrester. But what do you know about the man who brings the part to life — John McCook?

For over 30 years, McCook has played the caring patriarch on-screen. Here are five fun facts about him off-screen that you may not know!

All His Children
McCook has four children: a son, Seth, with first wife, the late Juliet Prowse; and three with wife, Laurette Spang McCook (Battlestar Galactica): Jake, Becky, and Molly McCook, who stars as Mandy on the Fox sitcom Last Man Standing.

Emmy Hat Trick
McCook has been nominated three times (2001, 2012, and 2018) for a Daytime Emmy Awards in the category of Outstanding Leading Actor In A Drama Series for his role as Eric.

Welcome Wagon
The actor serves as the show’s unofficial off-screen patriarch, opening up his centrally-located dressing room to cast members old and new. Anyone who wants to drop by for a chat is always welcome.

Drama Series And Sitcom Staple
After leaving The Young And The Restless in 1980, the show on which he played Lance Prentiss, McCook appeared regularly in primetime throughout the ’80s. His resume includes guest spots on such shows as The New Leave It To Beaver, Magnum, P.I., Simon & Simon, Family Ties, Dynasty, Hart To Hart, Three’s Company, The Love Boat, and many more!

Lost In Time
It wasn’t known for quite some time, but McCook filmed a role as an actor in a cigarette commercial in the hit feature film Back To The Future, which starred Michael J. Fox as time-traveling Marty McFly. Alas, the scene was cut. The Bold And The Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
