The Bold and the Beautiful star Sean Kanan, who plays Deacon, has been long time friends with General Hospital alum, Antonio Sabato Jr. Sabato was the original portrayer of John “Jagger” Cates, and fans have missed him ever since his final appearance in the spinoff, General Hospital: Night Shift, in 2008. In a recent social media post, Kanan shared his and Sabato’s connection and the upcoming event that both are looking forward to.
Team Sabato!
On Instagram, Kanan wrote, “So great to catch up with kickboxing teacher Chris Steele @steele_boxer and @antoniosabatojr. Antonio and I began training with Chris almost 35 years ago. Antonio is in training for his upcoming fight at the end of September. I’m in his corner.” In the post was a photo of the actors with Steele, and then one of Sabato and Kanan, beaming with their fists raised.
Sabato is slated to take part in a celebrity boxing match against Corey Wims on September 27, 2025, at the 2300 Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The fans were beyond excited to see the two, who had both appeared on GH together during the 1990s when Kanan played AJ. “Antonio is the BEST!!” gushed one loving fan while another commented, “2 of my faves in this photo! ❤️.” The followers fully supported Sabato’s new boxing endeavor as one responded, “Team Sabato!”

The Real-Life Italian Stallion
In June, sports reporter David Malandra Jr. posted a short video interview with Sabato on Instagram, promoting his upcoming Celebrity Boxing match. Malandra asked what Sabato’s reaction was to being the Rocky of the fight, and he responded, “That’s a perfect match for me playing Rocky because I am the Italian stallion.” He explained that while he was born and raised in Italy, America has given him a lot and, “It’s a dream come true to be fighting in the in the greatest country in the world.”
He dedicated the upcoming fight to his father, Antonio Sabato Sr., who died in 2021. The multi-talented actor also credited Sylvester Stallone and his Rocky movie franchise for his interest in boxing. When asked what Sly thought of his fight, Sabato explained that he had spoken to him and hoped the iconic actor would be able to show up.
“It out means everything to me to fight in Philly,” he stated, which is where the first Rocky film took place, and continued, “Philly is a town that I adore. I love the Italian community and everybody in between is supporting this fight.” (Learn about the time Sabato appeared on Dancing With the Stars.)
