Matthew Atkinson hasn’t appeared much lately on The Bold and the Beautiful because Thomas and his son Douglas moved to Paris, France. Off-screen, Atkinson has been keeping busy and announced he and his wife, Brytnee Ratledge, are expecting a baby in October. With the hustle and bustle of life keeping him occupied, he shared his interesting mode of transportation with fans.
Hugs, Not Phones
The busy Atkinson shared a selfie of him on a scooter on Instagram, writing, “Arguably the fastest and most dangerous way to get across city centers…legally…is on an electric scooter.” He explained he’s used his scooter everywhere. During his travels, he encountered various attitudes.
“I’ve been yelled at from Rome to Seattle, and tons of places in between,” the actor explained. “Not safe, not a suggestion, just a thought.”
Admitting that he rarely shares posts on Instagram but would make an exception in this case, he quoted the Bible: “‘Let your eyes look directly ahead And let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you.’ Proverbs 4:25.” Hinting that he may have been yelled at for using his phone while atop the scooter, he stated, “‘In front of you’ probably can’t be contextualized in the modern age as ‘down at your phone,’ so now that you, and I, have screwed up…put the phone away and give someone a hug.”
Moms Against Scooters
In and around pleas for him to return to B&B, as well as congratulations for the impending birth of his and Ratledge’s first child, one fan leaned into the scooter topic. “Sell that scooter! Signed, A son’s Mom 🤣,” she posted.
Another fan replied to that with, “Mine had a wreck in Santa Barbara & got to spend 2 weeks in the hospital. He sold it! 👍.”

Another follower also took his words to heart by responding, “That’s the only way to drive any vehicle safely 🙏🏼, is keep your eyes on the road. 👏.”
Some viewers recognized Atkinson riding his scooter around Seattle, expressing their happiness. He even got responses from Italy, with one explaining that they were using their phone at a beach in Portugal, and commented, “Phones are ruining everything😢. Being yelled [at] in my beautiful Italy is SO much better!😂.”
