Krista Allen has exited her role as Dr. Taylor Hayes on The Bold and the Beautiful. However, she was reunited with her B&B colleagues and the rest of the daytime community at the 50th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards on Friday night. Soap Hub chatted with the actress about her exit from the show and the legacy she leaves behind as Ridge’s “Doc.”
When Allen made the carpet, many (if not most everyone) had either seen or heard about the Deadline piece in which she shared that she’d been dropped from the show with one year left on her contract. (Shows have the option of letting an actor go throughout the performer’s contract; traditionally, the actor only has the option at the end of the contract.)
“I had an interview with Deadline today,” Allen told Soap Hub. “[The writer] asked me what was going on. I let her know I’d been dropped.” Despite the change in her status with the show, Allen walked into the Daytime Emmy Awards feeling “really, really, good.”
While the statuette went to the late Sonya Eddy (ex-Epiphany Johnson, General Hospital), Allen says she’s very proud of the scenes on her reel. It included “a lot of the ‘Tridge’ family stuff, stuff with Thorsten Kaye [Ridge], Jacqueline MacInnes Wood [Steffy], and [the scenes in] Aspen.”
Allen’s work with Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke) in the Forrester living room, in which the two women had a heart-to-heart and examined their long-running history with Ridge, earned both actresses Soap Hub’s Performer of the Week honors. However, Allen says those scenes did not make her reel. “[My submission] was more about how she can’t let go of Ridge,” the actress says. “That was the journey [she] took.”
Does Allen have plans for the future? “I was just saying I think I’m going to write a book,” she says, wryly adding, “Something based on a true story about a girl who takes over an iconic role on a soap opera and, against all odds, ends up being nominated for a Daytime Emmy.”
Allen may be leaving daytime again (she previously played Billie Reed on Days of our Lives), but she is leaving with a loyal fan base, a group of people that cheered for her Taylor vigorously. “That fan base got me through everything,” she says. “They were the ‘wind beneath my wings.'”
