Nine-toed villain Sheila Carter has had way more than nine lives on The Bold and the Beautiful. Her portrayer, Kimberlin Brown, discussed Sheila’s latest resurrection and how that all came about.
The LAPD seems more inept than the Port Charles police department (from General Hospital), because had they investigated properly, they would have noticed that Sheila only had nine toes, and the person Steffy killed in self-defense (thinking it was Sheila), had ten. She had severed one previously to fake her death in a bear attack. When poor Deacon (Sean Kanan) watched his beloved’s corpse roll into the cremator, the shroud over her body moved slightly, and he spotted 10 toes, realizing it wasn’t Sheila they were incinerating. (There should have been a drinking game for every time Deacon said, “Ten toes!”)
Feeling that the “threat” from Sheila was over, no one knew it was actually her lookalike named Sugar (also Brown). Thankfully, Deacon enlisted the help of Sheila’s biological son Finn (Tanner Novlan) when he figured out who Sugar was and traced her steps to a warehouse where Sheila was bound and near death. Now, the two are married, and Brown opened up about the yo-yo-like plot of her death and subsequent return.
Entertainment Weekly shared an interview with Brown about her return, exclaiming that after being killed off and thinking she was out of a job, a call from executive producer Brad Bell, “Definitely has made my year. She was my happy place. She’s a character that Brad’s dad, Bill, gave me an opportunity to create and with his guidance to turn into one of the best villains in daytime. It’s been a ride — it’s going to be very interesting to see where things go from here.” About to shift gears in her life, Bell’s call asking her to return was surprising, but welcome. “It was wonderful,” she said, but they didn’t tell her how it would happen. “We’re doing all kinds of research but I just wanted to ask you, would you come back?” Bell said to her, to which she responded, “Absolutely,” quipping, “This is a dream come true for me.”
When the plot of Sheila’s return was worked out and presented to her, she marveled, “This is brilliant. What a brilliant way to bring me back — I don’t know what he would have come up with otherwise.”
She credited Bell for listening to the wishes of the fans, remarking, “My fans and the viewers of this show are the reason, if not the biggest reason, that I’m back. I had so many people making so much noise on my behalf, and I’m very thankful for the noise that they made. I can’t even put it into words because it leaves me speechless.”
