Paying Tribute to Ozzy Osbourne
Wagner was a musician in the ’80s. He wanted to return to The Masked Singer stage, where he concealed his identity for many weeks. Wagner was the Eggplant, who joined the show in Week 2 with his rendition of “Rocket Man” by Elton John.
The Eggplant returned in Week 5 to perform “American Woman” by Lenny Kravitz and later on Week 9 to perform Linkin Park’s “One Step Closer” on Ozzfest Night. The episode paid tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne. His daughter, Kelly Osbourne, served as a guest judge during the episode.
Wagner wanted to pay tribute to the iconic heavy metal musician. But he struggled when it came to performing the Linkin Park hit song. In an interview with People, Wagner admitted that the band’s nu-metal rock sound “is not my wheelhouse.”
It was that performance that led to his elimination and reveal. Wagner was still grateful to be part of the episode that honored the late Ozzy Osbourne. He also shared the “connection” he made with his wife, Sharon Osbourne, when she guest-starred on B&B.
“I know Sharon through doing The Talk, and she did a guest appearance on The Bold and the Beautiful — we did a bed scene together,” Wagner explained. “So I had that connection. It was a cute thing with Julie [Chen] and her, because I was coming on the show for an interview. So, I knew her, and that was my connection to Ozzy Osbourne.”
Back to His Old Stomping Grounds
Wagner is mostly known for his roles on B&B, Melrose Place, and When Calls the Heart. However, he felt comfortable performing. The actor loved being thrown back into the drama and magic of music and television.
“It was very theatrical, and not a lot of people know that I’m kind of a thespian,” Wagner said. “I’ve done a ton of theater around the country and on Broadway. So, for me, that’s what’s lit me up, is being back onstage and performing.”
Wagner called the costume “cumbersome.” Despite what he had to wear, he enjoyed his time on the show. After Wagner’s identity was revealed, his Hallmark colleagues and Hearties got a kick out of it.
The Hallmark Channel Instagram account joked on The Masked Singer Instagram post, “If Minnie doesn’t recruit you for the Hope Valley Choir, then we will! Well done, [Jack Wagner]!”
WCTH co-star Andrea Brooks shared her seal of approval with a series of clapping emojis, as did the When Calls the Heart official Instagram account. Hearties loved all of his performances and knew it was him when they saw his clue packages. Jack Wagner once compared When Calls the Heart fans to GH fans.
