It was big news when Rebecca Budig returned to daytime television last month. That’s when she started airing as a recast Dr. Taylor Hayes on The Bold and the Beautiful. The last time she was on a daytime drama was three years ago when she appeared on General Hospital as Violet’s mom, Hayden Barnes. During her break from soaps, she formed a plan that could have changed the whole scope of her life.

Budig recently reunited with an important person from her past, her ex-husband Bob Guiney. Yes, the podcast host formerly known as Bachelor Bob. Budig and Guiney were married for six years, from 2004 – 2010. The two have kept in touch over the years, and they had a wonderful time catching up earlier this month on Guiney’s Almost Famous podcast.

When they discussed the actress’s break between soaps, she told Guiney and his fellow Bachelor franchise co-host Trista Sutter (the OG Bachelorette) about what she was close to doing with her downtime.

“I told my agency I can’t leave town. My husband has a full-time job,” the wife and mom explained to Guiney and Sutter. “And I was like, I’m here. And as you know, nothing shoots in LA, so I’ve been basically doing nothing. Going to acting class, whatever. I was going to go back to school, study psychology, and finally get my degree. And then this show came along.”

Little did she know that she would ultimately play a therapist on B&B. Dr. Taylor Hayes, after all, is a renowned psychiatrist who uses her considerable skills to help her kids with their dramatic lives and people in underserved communities around the world. For now, playing a doctor on TV will do. But the former All My Children actor isn’t giving up on her school dreams.

“I play a psychiatrist, and I’ve always gone to therapy for whatever, for years, and I’m interested in it, and I believe in it,” Budig told the Almost Famous hosts. “I was going to go — I still might, actually, because I never got my degree, and I want it, so… I’ve gotta study something.”
