There hasn’t been much focus on The Bold and the Beautiful’s Katie in the past year, but that’s okay. Her portrayer Heather Tom has been an integral part of the show by not only being a cast member but also directing and writing episodes. She was recently tasked with doing all three for Women’s History Month, breaking records by becoming the first woman to do all those jobs simultaneously on a soap opera. She recently pulled back the curtain on her historic episode and also teased emotional twists in it. Now, she looks forward to what’s next for Katie.

Katie Has Changed for the Better

Tom recently revealed to People her affection for her character on the show. “What I love about the character, Katie, is that the things that have happened to her really changed who she is and changed the dynamic of who the character is,” she remarked. She further explained that she appreciates when a major storyline changes a character’s viewpoint on things.

Although Katie wasn’t too happy when her ex, Bill (Don Diamont), seemed to have moved on with Poppy (Romy Park), Tom stated that she’s comfortable with where her character currently is in life. She felt that Katie was in “a position right now to have a relationship with a true equal.” More so, she would like to “see something that is challenging and also romantic and fulfills that side of who she is.” Katie can only go back to the Bill well so many times before being disappointed.

She’s Not Pining

Tom also spoke with US Weekly and praised the genre she works in and the show for creating the perfect environment for her special episode. “You have decades and decades and decades of history to be played, and that’s one of the most unique things about our genre,” she remarked. She further noted that the stories in soaps aren’t just about the shocking twists, stating, “With the daytime genre, the stakes are always life and death. Nothing’s ever casual. I enjoy directing that, I enjoy acting, and I enjoy writing it.”

When it comes to Katie and Bill, Tom explained that no one knows if it’s really over between them. Because the two have an incredible history, they’ve influenced each other’s worldview. But she doesn’t think that the couple will ever be truly done, although there’s room to move in other directions. “I don’t think that she’s not open to someone else. I don’t think she’s pining [over Bill],” she explained.
