Donna Mills joined the cast of Knots Landing in Season 2 as Abby Fairgate Cunningham, the ambitious sister of Sid Fairgate, played by Don Murray. Now, Mills has shared with Soap Hub her feelings about Murray in light of his recent passing.
Paying Tribute To Her TV Big Brother
Abby had no problem going after what she wanted in life, which was a stark contrast to Sid, who was the moral compass of Seaview Circle. He did his best to keep Abby in check but sadly, their life as siblings was cut short soon after her arrival in the cul-de-sac when Sid died after injuries he sustained in a car accident.
“I didn’t get to work with Don for long, but the time I did have with him was a joy,” Mills tells Soap Hub. “He was a wonderful actor and a wonderful human being. He played my big brother and if he had stayed on the show, I’m sure Abby wouldn’t have gotten into half the trouble she did! But he was off to bigger and better things. Go off into the sunset with the music swelling and know you’ll always be missed.”
Knots Landing: A True Cliffhanger
Abby and Gary’s (Ted Shackleford) involvement with some bad guys indirectly led to Sid’s death. The crooks sold Sid’s company — Knots Landing Motors — some stolen car parts. Sid and Gary decided to work with authorities to bring them to justice only the crooks rigged the breaks on poor Sid’s car in an attempt to either scare him or silence him.
Season 2 of Knots Landing gave new meaning to the term “cliffhanger” as Sid’s car went off a cliff and crashed. In Season 3 of Knots, he opted to have life-threatening surgery to cure his paralysis and, sadly, died on the operating table.
Despite the strain this put on Abby and Karen’s relationship, the two never forgot their mutual love for William Sidney “Sid” Fairgate.
