Fans watch The Bold and the Beautiful and other soaps to get their fix of human interaction as characters open up about their lives as they navigate through life. B&B is seen not only domestically but throughout the world — and believe it not, international fans might have insights into the lives of the Foresters, their friends, and foes more than U.S. viewers do.
That’s because international B&B viewers see a show that’s a few minutes longer than the one seen in the United States. Every once in a while, one of those scenes, which airs in the last part of the show’s prologue before the opening credits, makes its way to the airwaves. The scene is known as Prologue Scene C.
“When we sell the show overseas, it has to be a certain length,” Brad Bell, executive producer/head writer, B&B, tells Soap Hub. “So, we do a little extra content for the international series.”
The trick, if you will, to creating additional content is that it has to be interesting and dynamic but it can’t contain vital information to the plot as it’s not seen in the United States. Viewers would be left wondering what they missed if they didn’t see the whole show.
“At first, we thought, how are we possibly going to do that,” Bell says. “Now, it’s second nature to write these scenes [in which] we have a little fun banter. It can actually be anything that doesn’t move the plot forward.”
Check out the scene below that didn’t air domestically but did in overseas versions of B&B. You can view Taylor Hayes (Krista Allen) and Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) in relatively happier times (before Sheila went on a shooting spree!) and the two women chatted about Brooke Logan Forrester (Katherine Kelly Lang).
The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes. For more about what’s coming up in Los Angeles, check out all the latest that’s been posted on B&B spoilers, and for an in-depth look at the show’s history, click here.
