B&B’s Heather Tom and Don Diamont Talk About Their On-Screen Life

The Bold and the Beautiful isn’t the first soap opera Heather Tom and Don Diamont worked on together. However, the actors who play Katie and Bill didn’t get to share much screen time together until they both landed on the half-hour CBS soap.

Heather Tom and Don Diamont: Together Again

At B&B’s recent fan event, the two performers talked about how they came to be paired together on-screen. In Tom’s case, her desire to share scenes with Diamont goes back further than you might think. “[Heather] is the best human, the most talented person,” Diamont told fans who visited the Marriott Convention Center in Burbank for the gathering earlier this month. “He has to say this because he’s known me since I was 15,” Tom teased her former TV husband.

The six-time Daytime Emmy-winning actress refers to when the two actors first met after she joined The Young and the Restless in 1990 as Victoria Newman. Diamont played Brad Carlton on the soap. “I remember watching [Heather] her first day on Y&R, [thinking], ‘Wow, this is special,'” Diamont recollects.

“Did you ever think years later, you’d ‘rob the cradle?'” chuckled Tom, hastening to add on a more serious note that she “advocated for Victoria and Brad being together when I was younger. They didn’t [do that] while I was on the show.”

However, Tom saw another chance to work with the fan favorite when she learned that Diamont was joining the cast of B&B after Brad met an icy end on Y&R in 2009. She remembers the moment she heard the good news. “I was at an event where Jeanne Cooper [Katherine] was being honored, and I was sitting at a table with a bunch of B&B people,” Tom says. She quickly reached out to B&B executive producer/head writer requesting he consider pairing the two together on-screen.

“For this woman with her immense talent to want to work with me,” Diamont said, “it makes me very emotional. That meant so much to me. I think [our pairing] has been very successful.”
