Katherine Kelly Lang and The Bold and the Beautiful are celebrating 35 years this week. The B&B original cast member recently appeared on The Talk to take a look back at how it all began and her screentest with fellow cast member John McCook.
Katherine Kelly Lang: Becoming Brooke Logan
The actress’s screentest was shot on January 22, 1987 — two short months before the show’s March 23 premiere. Lang did her scene with John McCook (Eric Forrester). The dialogue had their characters dating — which they’d indeed later do on the show. “I’ve never seen that!” Lang exclaimed after a clip was shown.
“I credit John McCook with getting me that part,” she added. “I was so lucky to do that screentest with him. He made me so comfortable and so confident, and I just rocked it and got the part because of him.”
Don Diamont Raves About John McCook
“He [John] is still that same wonderful person,” said Don Diamont (Bill Spencer), who along with Jack Wagner (Nick Marone) also appeared on The Talk to help celebrate the show’s 35th anniversary. As previously reported, B&B will air a special Brooke-centric episode on Thursday, March 24 in which Lang’s character will share screen-time with five important men in her life — Nick, Eric, Bill, Thorne (Winsor Harmon), and, of course, Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) — the man she believes is her destiny.
Katherine Kelly Lang Plays Brooke’s Heartache
Recently, Brooke and Ridge’s marriage went on the rocks again after Brooke fell off the wagon and spent the night in bed (no sex) with Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan). Granted nothing happened between them, but the incident still caused enough drama to cause a rift in Brooke and Ridge’s relationship.
The Talk airs weekdays on CBS and is hosted by Akbar Gbajabiamila, Amanda Kloots, Natalie Morales, Jerry O’Connell, and Sheryl Underwood. The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) airs weekdays on CBS.
