Soaps have been around since radio serials were broadcast nearly 100 years ago. Today, The Bold and the Beautiful, which is executive produced and head written by Brad Bell, and other daytime dramas are part of streaming platforms like Paramount+, peacock and Hulu.
Days of our Lives is the only network soap that’s created original programming for a streaming service (peacock) with Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem and A Very Salem Christmas. The three other daytime dramas — B&B, The Young and the Restless, and General Hospital — have yet to produce original material specifically for their respect streaming partners (for B&B and Y&R, it’s Paramount+; GH streams on Hulu).
However, Brad Bell recently gave an interview that said B&B might get into the original content streaming game. “We’ve had conversations with CBS and Paramount+,” Bell told TV Insider. “That’s something we’ve been considering. We’re not in production just yet. I’m sure the day will come when we do something specifically for streaming.”
The blessing and the curse, if you will, of B&B for 35 years has been that the show is only 30 minutes in length. Viewers are always left wanting more but there’s only so much screen time for your favorites. The show, understandably, keeps a relatively tight cast compared to its hour-long daytime drama counterparts.
For any kind of limited or ongoing streaming programming, B&B would have the option of showcasing the main cast who are currently appearing on the CBS show. Another choice would be to dip into the vault of characters from the past and show us what they have been doing.
Soap Hub will update readers as details of this potential venture come to light. B&B celebrated its 35th episode on March 23, 1987. The show marked the occasion with a special Brooke-centric episode in which Brooke Logan Forrester (original cast member Katherine Kelly Lang) examined her life as she is currently facing conflict within her marriage to Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye).
The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes. For more about what’s coming up in Los Angeles, check out all the latest that’s been posted on B&B spoilers, and for an in-depth look at the show’s history, click here.
