We imagine Maya Avant Forrester is raising her daughter Lizzie (who could be SORAS’d any day now) off-screen on The Bold and the Beautiful. In the meantime, Maya’s portrayer, Karla Mosley, has an exciting new project she’s involved with where she plays the role of mom to a teen.
The Tubi original movie, Deadly Cheer Mom debuts Friday, March 25 on the streaming service. The movie tells the story of Beth (Tommi Rose), captain of her high school cheerleading team, who seemingly has it all! But when videos of her drinking, smoking, and bashing her teammates are exposed, Beth insists that those moving images are fake. Watch for her to set out on a mission to expose the individual(s) behind the blackmail!
Soap Hub chatted with Karla Mosley, who broke daytime ground playing the role of transgender Maya Avant, about her part in the film and how the process known as “Deep Fake” plays into it.
“Deep Fake is a real thing,” Mosley tells Soap Hub. “We have this technology now where you can take a video…and basically match whatever words you want to make it look like a [person] is something that [they] are not. Some of it can be funny. You can use it for humor.”
However, in Deadly Cheer Mom, the technique is being used to send Beth’s life into turmoil. In the film, Mosley plays Marisol, and her daughter Ashley, played by Jazzy Williams, is in school with Beth. “[My character] went to school with Beth’s mother,” Mosley says, setting up the story. “We have a rivalry that stems from high school. We’re playing out things [today] from our childhood…”
Don’t miss the film to see if Beth is able to exonerate herself. Spoiler alert: the shocking ending potentially sets up a possible sequel! Speaking of what’s coming in the future, we asked Mosley where she thinks Maya is today and if we’ll ever learn what caused her marriage to Rick (Jacob Young) to end.
“It’s interesting,” she responds. “I think that Rick messed up. She was so in love with him. I doubt that she would be [the one to leave] or there’d be a shift for her. I think he stepped out.” However, this doesn’t mean that things are over for good between Rick and Maya. “Maybe they’re trying to work things out [off-camera] because of [their daughter] Lizzie?” Mosley suggests.
