The Bold and the Beautiful News Update: Michael Swan Recalls The Late Darlene Conley

Viewers tuned in to see As the World Turns faves Michael Swan (Duncan) and Margaret Reed (Shannon) on the latest episode of The Locher Room on YouTube where former publicist Alan Locher reunites Oakdale favorites. Fans who viewed the chat wanted to know about Swan’s time on The Bold and the Beautiful opposite the late Darlene Conley, too.

Darlene Conley Memories

As veteran BB fans recall, Swan was introduced as the mysterious Myles Fairchild in 1998, who was later revealed to be Adam Alexander, the ex-husband of Sally Spectra (Conley). “Talk about a force of nature,” Swan said with a big smile when asked about working with Conley. “Darlene was a marvelous, marvelous person and a wonderful friend.”

The actor says he would rib his co-star about how she played to the camera at times. “She was such a mugger,” Swan chuckled. “I’d say to her, ‘Darlene, you’re mugging,’ and she’d say that it was called ‘face-acting!'”

Conley would invite Swan to her private sitting area at the Hollywood Bowl in the summer to attend concerts. “She had season tickets and she’d play tricks on me,” Swan recalls. “We’d go to the Bowl and sit in her box seats and bring a picnic with a couple of bottles of wine. She knew what a huge fan I was of [Frank] Sinatra and [Tony] Bennett. Well, one time she said, ‘We’re going to see Diana Krall.’ Well, sure enough, we’d get there and there was Diana Krall, but she was opening for Tony Bennett. What a treat!”

Adam had been long-talked about on BB as the man who walked out on Sally and Macy (Bobbie Eakes). It turned out he’d gone on the run after doing some money laundering. Swan’s initial tenure on BB lasted less than two years. “We had a great time working together, but for some reason, the audience wasn’t thrilled about [Sally] having this ‘good-looking’ younger man,” Swan offered.

“We were great friends,” Swan added. “Unfortunately, she passed away [in 2006].” The actor noted that Conley had an impressive career outside of daytime. “She was in The Birds [the Alfred Hitchcock film]. She used to do this thing where she’d walk the halls where the dressing rooms were and hum in a monotone. I’d tease her about that and she’d give me a [playful] slap and say, ‘Shut up!’ Like Anthony Herrera [ex-James Stenbeck, ATWT], Darlene was a force of nature!”
