The Bold and the Beautiful News Update: Darin Brooks Previews His Role in Groomzilla

It’s hard to say whom Wyatt might end up marrying (if anyone) when The Bold and the Beautiful returns with new episodes. But fans can catch his portrayer, Darin Brooks, playing an overzealous groom this weekend and later this summer in the film Groomzilla.

Darin Brooks: A Different Kind Of Role

The film’s been available on other platforms, but now it’s headed to UPtv. “The script was great,” Brooks told TV Insider. His character is Tucker, a man who doesn’t initially get wrapped up in his upcoming wedding. But that all changes and he becomes a — groomzilla!

“Tucker is a good kid, a good guy,” adds Brooks. “He’s been dating Alyssa (Elizabeth Rice), but he hadn’t popped the question. He finally does, but he’s always late, a little bit of a slacker. He smooth talks his ways out of problems. Eventually, he’s late to one too many events and she’s like, ‘I just can’t anymore. I wish he’d be serious.’ Then, the magic happens. He does a 180-degree turn.”

Tucker’s got some well-known faces playing his relatives. The late Georgia Engel (The Mary Tyler Moore Show) portrayed Tucker’s grandmother. “She was so sweet,” Brooks recalls. “I’d do some ad-libs and she’d roll with them. She was such a pro. It’s always great to work with any of the TV greats from classic TV shows.”

Soap vet Mark Derwin (ex-Mallet, Guiding Light; ex-Ben, One Life to Live; ex-Adrian, The Young and the Restless) plays Tucker’s dad. “Mark’s got that gruff edge on the outside but we did a lot of joking between takes,” Brooks recalls. “He’d be keeping this straight face because he was this hard-edge dad, but off-screen he is so funny.”

Brooks got a thumbs’ up from the film’s writer, Darren O’Hare. “He came to set and said, ‘You’re funny. I wrote this about my wedding because I kind of went down this path – only not to this length,'” Brooks shares. “He said I was playing it beautifully. I said, ‘Dude, that’s so cool!’”

Groomzilla can be seen on UPtv on Sunday, June 14 at 5 p.m. ET, Thursday, June 18 at 11:07 p.m. ET, and Sunday, July 19 at 9 p.m. ET. on UPtv. The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
