The Bold and the Beautiful led the way with scripted television shows getting back into production following an industry-wide shut down due to the coronavirus earlier this summer. While the show’s actors, including Scott Clifton (Liam), have learned how to work in a new way, they’ve also been charged with explaining the new normal to their real-life children.
Clifton, however, says that his son, Ford, 4, is a fast learner! “[He] has the entire pandemic vocabulary down at this point,” the proud father tells Soap Hub. “He can speak in concepts about what’s happening [including things like], ‘We have to quarantine because of the coronavirus, which can make you sick and we have to stay six feet apart.’
“He can have a fluent conversation about what’s happening in the world right now as, I imagine, a lot of kids around his age can,” Clifton muses. “How can they not?” The actor and dad laments that everyone, especially young children, is going through this time in history and are having to make adjustments in their lives, as a result.
“It’s a terrible age for a young boy to be stuck at home with his parents and no one else for months and months on end,” the actor acknowledges. “It’s hard for him. Sometimes, he has moments. We try to be as understanding as possible.”
Scott Clifton points out that years from now, what’s going on currently will be remembered given how challenging this all is. “There’s an entire [generation] that in 50 years will look back saying, ‘Hey we spent [part of] childhood under quarantine. That’s how we grew up!’ It’s certainly an interesting time in history.”
After a tumultuous year dealing with the loss of his character’s daughter, Beth, with Hope (Annika Noelle), Clifton got to play the emotional high of learning his baby girl was, in reality, alive. Is the happily wed Liam headed for more conflict in the near future? Stay tuned to find out! The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
