The Bold and the Beautiful is the first scripted show to return to production since COVID-19 led to an industry shutdown. BB has solid safety measures in place so that the actors and crew remain safe, but Hollywood magic is making sure there’s still plenty of romance and intimacy on the half-hour serial.
Access Hollywood went behind the scenes at BB to find out how the show is shooting scenes. In the Access report, viewers see how Denise Richards (Shauna) and Thorsten Kaye (Ridge) shoot a scene. First, a camera-ready Richards will stand in the set opposite a mannequin and do her performance. Then, she’ll step to the side, at a recommended distance away, while Kaye steps in and delivers Ridge’s lines to a mannequin.
The scenes are edited together to make it look as if they’re standing in the same room. The Access report shows how a kissing scene between Ridge and Shauna is pulled off with Richards’ real-life husband Aaron Phypers stepping in as Ridge is shot from behind.
“I want to thank [Aaron] for [standing in] because the guy’s in amazing shape,” Kaye quipped. “I think Denise likes it better — she gets more from the mannequin than she gets from me.”
The Access report (which you can see below) also shows how Ridge was able to be so close to Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) when she was lying in her hospital bed. When Ridge leaned in to comfort his daughter, it wasn’t Wood in the bed, but instead, it was a dummy. And it’s not just any dummy, but the one used by Prince Omar (Kabir Bedi) when he faked Taylor’s (Hunter Tylo) death in 2002.
The Access report has Shauna explaining to Ridge what happened to them in Las Vegas and by the looks of things, this time, what happened in Vegas will not be staying in Vegas! Is there a new Mrs. Ridge Forrester? Tune in to find out! The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
