For years, The Bold and the Beautiful was considered the new kid on the block. And while the CBS sudser is still the youngest soap on daytime TV, the program is far from being a newbie as evidenced by some recent news.
B&B is celebrating an anniversary. The show, created by the late William J. Bell and his wife, Lee Phillip Bell, recently turned 32, debuted on Y&R in 1987! Bradley P. Bell has served as the show’s executive producer and head writer since the 1990s.
Here are six major milestones from the show’s three decades-plus on the air!
Ridge and Caroline’s first wedding: In the show’s first few months Ridge (then Ronn Moss, now Thorsten Kaye) was set to marry virginal Caroline (Joanna Johnson). The ceremony came to a dramatic halt after the bride learned her groom had been unfaithful to her!
The Debut of Sally Spectra: Spectra Fashions had been referred to in the show’s early days, but it wasn’t until 1989 that Darlene Conley debuted as flamboyant mama bear Sally, determined to compete with Forrester Creations. Today, Sally’s namesake/grandniece Sally (Courtney Hope) continues the Spectra legacy!
Rock And Roll: In 1994, Dr. James Warwick (Ian Buchanan) and Dr. Taylor Hayes Forrester (Hunter Tylo) were at the Forrester cabin when an earthquake struck the Big Bear area. Facing death, James was about to die a virgin so Taylor made love to him.
Sneak Attack: Stephanie (Susan Flannery) lied to her loved ones that she’d had a heart attack to manipulate them in 2005. Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Jackie (Lesley-Ann Down) exposed her, prompting everyone to walk out on the Forrester matriarch.
Surprise Delivery: Was Liam (Scott Clifton) or Rick (Jacob Young) the father of Amber’s (Adrienne Frantz) unborn baby? It turns out neither man was the dad. Amber had a fling with Marcus (Texas Battle) and everyone learned Amber’s secret after she gave birth to a daughter, Rosie, in 2011.
It’s A Girl!: BB set up a big drama when the show aired its milestone 8,000th episode earlier this year. Hope (Annika Noelle) believes her baby, Beth, died in childbirth. But neither she nor Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) know that she’s alive and has been adopted by Steffy as a sibling (Phoebe) for her daughter Kelly.
Soap Hub is wishing B&B a happy 32nd birthday and many happy returns!
