Soap Veteran Sean Kanan To Host the 11th Annual Indie Series Awards

The coronavirus isn’t stopping awards shows from continuing. Not only will the Daytime Emmys be on CBS in late June, but the 11th Annual Indie Series Awards ceremony, previously set for earlier this year, will now be held online. Soap veteran and Studio City executive producer and star Sean Kanan will host the gala set to honor the best in Web programming.

Sean Kanan Takes On Hosting Duties

“We could not be more thrilled to be working with Sean on this year’s ISAs, said producer Roger Newcomb. “In addition to his comedic chops and ability to captivate an audience, Sean has a deep understanding of the indie world and the importance of celebrating these incredible productions.”

“I am honored and excited to be a part of the digital community and ISA family,” added Kanan, known to soap fans worldwide for his role as Deacon Sharpe on The Bold and the Beautiful as well as on The Young and the Restless. He also played A.J. Quartermaine on General Hospital. “This is the future of entertainment.”

Details on how the show will be produced in light of social-distancing are being worked out. “I haven’t heard from ‘the powers that be’ on exactly how we’re doing it,” Kanan tells Soap Hub. “I’m not sure if I’ll be hosting from my living room or a dedicated place.”

As details are being finalized, Kanan is working on a monologue that will understandably be different from one that may have been delivered in a pre-COVID-19 world.

“It’s going to be challenging,” the actor says. “I saw Tom Hanks doing one on SNL without a studio audience, which can be tough — and he’s Tom Hanks! I’m going to give it everything I have and be as entertaining as I can be. Last time, I performed in my living room my dog said I killed it.”

Sean Kanan, whose series is not only nominated for multiple ISAs including ones for Best Drama Series and Best Lead Actor – Drama but also eight Daytime Emmys, also gives kudos to awards shows moving forward in these challenging times.

“This is the reality we’re living in,” he says. “It’s a testament to the ISA’s fortitude to keep moving forward in the face of the coronavirus and make sure that there’s a ceremony. Likewise, the Daytime Emmys.”

The 11th Annual Indie Series Awards virtual ceremony will be held on Thursday, June 18, 2020 at 9 p.m. PT/11 p.m. ET. To find out more about the Indie Series Awards, visit indieseriesawards.com. Tickets go on sale June 1st.
