Catching Up With Sean Kanan
Deacon Sharp is off The Bold and the Beautiful canvas these days, having been jailed for trying to shoot ex-wife Quinn Fuller, but Deacon’s portrayer, Sean Kanan, has been staying busy in front of the camera with two exciting new projects!
Soap Hub recently chatted with Sean Kanan to talk about his new ventures. First up, is a role in the film Beyond the Law, which stars Steven Seagal and Johnny Messner (ex-Rob, Guiding Light).
Kanan plays a gun-toting thug in the movie and while his character may not have a lot to say, he does appear throughout the film. “I have a scene where I tell a very funny joke,” Kanan shares. “It’s one of the most fun moments in the movie. I’m excited about it.”
He’s also set to star in the film Colonials, which tells the story of a space colonist who travels from Mars and crash lands on Earth so he can save a Resistance in the dark ages from an advance Moon enforcer — and the galaxy from human extinction!
“I play a character named Zeke in Colonials,” Kanan says. “Zeke is a 126-year-old human from Mars, stranded on Earth. It’s a cool part.”
The soap hopper adds that the role he’s most recognized for is Deacon, which he originated first on BB before taking the part to The Young and the Restless where he got into even more trouble!
Then, Deacon returned to BB when Bill Spencer (Don Diamont) hired him to thwart the marriage of his daughter Hope (Annika Noelle) to Bill’s boy Liam (Scott Clifton).
Deacon’s granddaughter Beth was the focal point of a recent BB storyline that paid off in ratings gold for the half-hour soap. “I was really happy to read recently that BB had shot to No. 1 in the top demo for five weeks,” Sean Kanan says. “It’s so nice to hear that BB continues to excel. Deacon’s absolutely the most fun role I’ve ever played.”
How does he feel about Deacon being locked up for trying to harm Quinn (Rena Sofer)? “It’s time to get Deacon out of prison,” chuckles Kanan, who adds, “I always feel there’s more story that could be played with him.”
Not only does Deacon now have a granddaughter in baby Beth, but viewers haven’t seen his son ‘little’ Deke whom he had with the late Becky (Marissa Tait) in years!
“Can you believe it?” Kanan marvels. “Deacon’s now a grandfather!” The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS. Check local listings for air times.
