Deacon Sharpe doesn’t have a doppelgänger… but his portrayer, Sean Kanan, has one in cyberspace. The actor who is known for The Bold and the Beautiful, General Hospital, and Studio City recently shared on Instagram that someone is out there on the Internet, trying to make people believe that they’re him… and they are decidedly not!
A Warning From Sean Kanan
“This individual is impersonating me,” Kanan posted on his social media account. “Would everyone please help by reporting him? Thank you. @instagram.”
As can be seen in Kanan’s post, the faux account has a mere 1 follower and is following 75 folks. The real Kanan’s account is much more robust, with 7,636 followers, and following 7,140.
“Hey, Sean,” responded @lefteris.d.j.sharpe. “Tried to report this account, but when I select that he’s (she’s) pretending to be someone famous (the reason I report), then Instagram asks me to write the name in the search bar. When I write Sean Kanan, it is not appeared to select it, ’cause it shows only verified accounts! So I reported the guy, ’cause he is pretending to be someone I know. This selection doesn’t ask me who. That’s the only thing I could do.
“But honestly, I think that’s not strong enough,” @lefteris.d.j.sharpe added. “The guy also doesn’t have any content to report him based on that 🙄 Hope my report helps. But I think it’s important to avoid that by verification of your account. However, maybe too many reports from me and your many fans will help to get insta [to] delete his account.
Followers need to be savvy when it comes to social media. It’s a good idea to avoid following an account unless you know for sure who it belongs to… especially if that account asks for personal information or anything else that makes you uncomfortable. Also, look out for the blue checkmark.
