Social media seems to be flush with posts about Netflix’s new polarizing film, The Social Dilemma, and CBS soap star Courtney Hope is weighing in with her thoughts as well.
The film, a docudrama directed by Jeff Orlowski and written by Orlowski, Davis Coombe, and Vickie Curtis, features tech experts who sound the alarm on the dangerous human impact of social networking. After watching it this weekend, Hope took to her Instagram account with her assessment.
“The Social Dilemma. Who’s seen it? If you haven’t, I HIGHLY suggest it,” the actress posted next to a cool photo of herself. “It amplified all I knew and was feeling by 10 (if not more). It was informative, terrifying, saddening, and quite an eye-opener as to what my phone was really taking from me and society as a whole.”
Courtney Hope is referring to the experts talking about how social media is undermining the shared sense of reality that undermines democracy.
“I chose immediately to be more conscious of my life choices in where I spend my time,” Hope says. “Unloading so much from my phone that was in no way needed or used. When I post it will be positive, informative, and truthful. But mostly I’ll be out there living my life, more than I already have been, away from technology as we were meant to experience it.”
Based on her viewing, she has strong advice for everyone who spends too much time on social media.
“Disconnect, do your own research, listen to opposing views, and have more in-person conversations with open hearts and minds,” Hope says. “Be kind and be conscious of your word choices. Choose self-love. And more often than not, put your phone down and walk the FUCK AWAY.”
Fans of Courtney Hope may have been upset when Sally was run out of Los Angeles on The Bold and Beautiful, but the good news is the actress will soon be on sister soap The Young and the Restless. Whether she will be Sally or someone new is the question on everyone’s mind. Stay tuned!
