It looks like Eric and Quinn’s reconciliation late last year was a bit premature as viewers of The Bold and the Beautiful have discovered. John McCook’s Eric has had marital strife since BB’s inception and even though he has a new wife, he’s still got marital blues.
John McCook — Performer of the Week
The actor’s recent heartfelt performances as a disengaged husband have earned him Soap Hub’s Performer of the Week for BB.
Sometimes we talk ourselves into thinking things are the way we want them to be. That best describes Eric’s situation with his wife Quinn (Rena Sofer). Her impassioned pleas for effecting a reunion last December worked — or at least everyone thought they had.
Quinn moved back home, but Eric’s been unable to fully forgive her, resulting in the two putting marital relations on hold. It’s not an unfamiliar position for Eric to be in — he and the late Stephanie (Susan Flannery) often had a marriage in name only.
Eric opened up to his son Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) that he found it difficult to fully commit to Quinn given the role she played in trying to bust up Ridge and Brooke’s (Katherine Kelly Lang) marriage. Ridge listened intently as Eric confessed that things just weren’t the same in the bedroom.
McCook had Eric take the position of him and Quinn not getting along as a sad reality — one that he’s not sure will change.
Following a friendly (maybe too friendly — stay tuned) visit with Carter (Lawrence Saint-Victor), Quinn returned home, hoping to share some intimacy with her husband, whom she truly does love. Eric appreciated Quinn’s attempt to reignite the passion between them but was unable to return her feelings.
In flashbacks, we saw clips of Eric and Quinn’s romance in happier times. Quinn made one final attempt to get close to Eric by donning some sexy lingerie. Alas, Eric just can’t be who Quinn wants him to be.
Begging off to get a good night’s sleep for a business trip, Eric went off to a guest room for some shut-eye. McCook conveyed the malaise (a word that once described his passionless marriage to Stephanie) that he’s feeling now with Quinn not by engaging in shouting matches or playing anger, but rather by acknowledging that Quinn’s schemes have come with a price.
And that price just might be the duo’s marriage. The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
