Brooke and Ridge were able to mend their relationship following Brooke’s passionate kiss with Bill last year that was caught on video and revealed at a family gathering. Recently, the action on The Bold and the Beautiful shifted to the other union torn apart by the forbidden smooch – Bill and Heather Tom’s Katie.
In a series of emotionally-packed scenes, Katie opened her heart to Bill (Don Diamont), her ex, explaining to him that while she still cared for him, she wasn’t sure she could trust him with her heart ever again as this wasn’t the only time Bill betrayed her.
For her showing Katie’s vulnerability, strength, and passion, Soap Hub bestows Performer of the Week honors on six-time Daytime Emmy-winner Heather Tom.
After Bill professed to Katie his deep regret for having hurt her, she said she always forgives him because that’s what they do. She hastened to add that a definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, which she has done by forgiving him, and expecting a different result, which Bill has yet to deliver.
Tom showed Katie’s compassionate side by letting Bill state his case and she couldn’t help but be affected by his earnest vulnerability — something he rarely shows. However, the weary look on her face conveyed that she may not be up for giving him another shot.
“I never meant for us to be apart,” Katie shared, her eyes welling up with tears. “You break my heart…and you know what? I deserve better than that. I deserve a man who loves me and only me– who is true to me, who keeps his commitments.”
Bill chipped away at Katie’s resolve, hoping to make an impact. He recounted their wedding outside her childhood home and the love they have for their son, Will (Finnegan George).
Bill and Katie know each other so well that he felt comfortable injecting a bit of levity into their heavy conversation, promising her a “tiara” if they were to reunite. Viewers saw Katie’s resolve waver not because of the diamonds (though, they probably can’t hurt), but because Bill is being gentle in his persistence.
When Katie dropped a game about business off at Bill’s office, the last thing that she was probably expecting was for him to make an impassioned plea for them to get back together. Now, she’s faced with making an important decision – one that could bring her joy for the rest of her life or immense disappointment that may deliver another round of heartache.
Over the decades, soaps have evolved from shooting scenes in a studio to taping episodes against beautiful backdrops throughout the world. However, daytime drama will always be about, as Katie and Bill reminded us, two people conveying heartfelt emotions to one another. The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS.
