Liam feeling anxious over his inadvertent role in Vinny’s death on The Bold and the Beautiful is heightened whenever Deputy Chief Baker is on the scene. For the stakes to be raised, Baker has to be relentless in his quest to find the truth and be a believable threat to Liam’s future. Therefore, Soap Hub is bestowing Performer of the Week honors on Dan Martin, Baker’s portrayer, for his role in this tale.
Dan Martin — Performer of the Week
Martin has been on the BB scene for over 20 years, first appearing to investigate the shooting of Grant Chambers (Charles Grant). He knew there was more to the situation back then and there was. (Ridge took the fall so that young Rick, the real shooter, wouldn’t be charged.)
It stands to reason that Baker knows that there’s more to any case involving, directly or not, the Forrester family. His instincts have told him that Liam’s a viable candidate in Vinny’s (Joe LoCicero) death for a reason. Liam is responsible!
Martin’s Baker has the inquisitiveness of Columbo and the commanding presence of Kojack as he tries to get to the bottom of how Vinnie died. It’s a nice touch that he refers to the decedent as “Vincent” — not “Vinny” as his friends and acquaintances called him.
Recently, Martin, who always steps back into his familiar role as if no time had passed at all, was tasked with going up against two of BB’s strongest actors — Don Diamont (Bill) and three-time Daytime Emmy-winner Clifton.
While Baker’s character has been promoted to Deputy Chief, it’d be easy to see him segue into a career as a prosecutor. He was questioning both Bill and Liam as an investigator should, but his performance in Bill’s office was worthy of an attorney in the courtroom going in for the win.
Bill deftly kept tossing the ball back into Baker’s court, telling him that his son doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. Bill said that Vinny was either killed in an accident or over a drug deal gone bad. Both are certainly plausible, but Baker calmly and firmly shot back a third option — someone who had a stake in the case of Steffy’s (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) falsified paternity tests.
When Liam burst into his dad’s office, unaware that Baker was there, and shouted that Hope had forgiven him, Baker felt that he was on to something. (You could see him making the mental note that Liam had done something that needed forgiving.) Bill tried to take control of the conversation, but he failed to convince Baker that his son was innocent.
Liam told his father that Baker would be back. We hope so. Anytime that Martin is in a scene, the drama kicks into gear! The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
