Ridge Forrester has had to step up and remind his loved ones that Deacon Sharpe is a man not to be trusted. For his portrayal of a loving, passionate family man, Soap Hub bestows Performer of the Week honors for B&B on Ridge’s portrayer, Thorsten Kaye.
The late Stephanie Forrester (Susan Flannery) once asked her family if they knew what it felt like to see something that no one else sees and be forbidden to speak about it. She was referring to Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang) and what Steph felt was her harmful choices in life. Now, Ridge knows what his mother felt as he is the one who thinks Deacon (Sean Kanan) is bad news but he can’t seem to quite convince the women in his life of this fact.
Ridge has gently but firmly done his level best to talk to both Brooke and Hope Logan Spencer (Annika Noelle) about the importance of distancing themselves from Deacon. As Ridge has different relationships with each woman, Kaye took a different approach in dealing with them.
“I’m not attacking you and I’m not accusing you of anything,” Ridge told Brooke. “I love you so much.” However, he couldn’t help but point out to the woman he loves that she looks at Deacon in a certain way — and that’s a problem. Brooke insisted she had no feelings for Deacon but Ridge couldn’t help but look at the bigger picture. Ridge gently but firmly pointed out that Deacon meant pain and heartache for those around him and that he didn’t want to see that happen.
Brooke gently reminded Ridge that the two of them weren’t even together when she took up with Deacon but Ridge pushed back to say that his goal was to protect his family from Deacon — no matter what. Ridge emphatically asked Brooke to say that she didn’t have feelings for Deacon and never could.
Realizing he needed to attack his issue from a different position, Ridge dropped by Hope’s, taking a firmer stance with his stepdaughter. Hope maintained that Deacon wasn’t a con artist but Ridge wasn’t hearing it. “Deacon creates problems wherever he goes,” Ridge firmly told Hope and rebuffed her defending his birth father.
While Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) is hoping to reach Brooke through her heart, he took a much harsher position with Hope by informing his stepdaughter that she’d have to take her stuff, her husband, and her kids and leave his and Brooke’s property. Sure, it was initially Hope’s idea to vacate the premises but it took on a powerful reality when Ridge told her she’d have to follow through with her plan.
Ridge conceded to Hope part of him not wanting Deacon around was because he bothered him personally. “There are some things I can’t look past,” Ridge maintained. He opted to treat his stepdaughter as not a child but an equal. “You want to be with this guy so badly, then do it…do it in your home — not mine.”
We could see Ridge dying inside, figuratively, of course, but it is hurting him greatly to have these conversations with his wife and stepdaughter. Kudos to Thorsten Kaye for showing Ridge torn but also knowing deep down that he’s making the right decision.
