The Bold and the Beautiful’s Dr. John “Finn” Finnegan is an even-tempered guy but as viewers saw recently, the good doctor can get passionate if pushed too far. For Tanner Novlan’s (Finn) portrayal of a man who realized his father had lied to him his whole life, Soap Hub bestows him with Performer of the Week for B&B honors.
Tanner Novlan – Performer of the Week
Newlyweds having dinner with parents can be filled with apprehension but Jack Finnegan (Ted King) telling Finn that he was his biological dad shot the evening into a whole other level of angst. Li Finnegan (Naomi Matsuda) had already learned the news so, this time it was Finn’s (Tanner Novlan) time to process the reality that his adoptive dad and his biological father are one and the same.
Finn worshiped his parents. He went into medicine to follow in his mother’s footsteps but he also respected his father, the man who helped shepherd him into adulthood. Being Jack’s biological son has tied the two men together but Finn has never felt further estranged from the senior Finnegan than he has in his entire life. Finn realized that Jack had countless opportunities to share the truth but he didn’t — and that’s something Finn just can’t forgive.
Tanner Novlan not only brought Finn’s betrayal as a son to light in these recent scenes, but he also shined as a son, wanting to support his mother, Li. Finn is furious at his father for not only lying to him but also for lying to Li and for betraying her. Finn supportively embraced Li, letting her know that she wasn’t alone in this whole mess.
Jack begged his son to understand but Finn was not having any of that. He emotionally reamed his dad, saying that he would never do to his children Hayes and Kelly (well, Kelly’s not really Finn’s to raise however, we can see Steffy Forrester Finnegan letting her husband calm down before she gently reminds him that Liam is Kelly’s dad) what Jack has done to him.
There’s an old saying that “kindness should not be mistaken for weakness.” Finn, who is very nice, proved that adage to be true as he is not going to forgive his dad anytime soon. Not only does Jack have to make things up to his son but as far as Finn is concerned his father is going to have to make things up to Li, too. Bravo to Tanner Novlan, who brought new and powerful dimensions to Finn in this current development.
