Soap Hub Performer of the Week for B&B: Sean Kanan

Deacon Sharpe has been around the block on The Bold and the Beautiful. However, even he thinks that Sheila Carter goes places that no sane person would. For his performance as a man bewildered by Sheila’s antics, Soap Hub bestows Performer of the Week for B&B honors upon Sean Kanan, Deacon’s portrayer.

Sean Kanan – Performer of the Week

Kanan has redeemed Deacon in many ways since his return to the show’s storytelling canvas but the guy still had trouble making pals given his past. That led, in part, to an unlikely and somewhat uneasy friendship between Deacon and Sheila (Kimberlin Brown). It only made sense for Sheila, once again on the lam from the law, to seek out Deacon.

“Are you insane?” Deacon asked Sheila when she showed up on his door. “Dumb question,” the Il Giardino worker hastened to add. While Deacon may have looked the other way in the past when it came to Sheila, that time has passed. Deacon let Sheila know in no uncertain terms that this time, she’d crossed a line. There was no coming back from her shooting Steffy Forrester Finnegan (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and killing John “Finn” Finnegan (Tanner Novlan), her own son.

A maniacal Sheila informed Deacon that she didn’t kill her son. Deacon wasn’t sure whether to believe such an unlikely scenario. The look on his face read that Sheila’s had a break from reality! After a commercial break, it was evident that Deacon (Sean Kanan) had calmed down a bit as Sheila continued to fill him in on Finn’s miraculous survival story.

When Deacon marveled that Finn’s mom had brought him back to life, Sheila recounted how she shocked his heart. “I was talking about Li,” Deacon deadpanned, referring to Li Finnegan (Naomi Matsuda), Finn’s adoptive mother.

Deacon tried to reason with Sheila, pointing out that he was still on probation, barely out of prison himself. “You got lucky,” Deacon pointed out to Sheila. After the naughty nurse noted that this ordeal will bring Finn and Steffy closer together, Deacon questioned her about her thought process. Did she really think her actions didn’t have consequences?

Chief Deputy Brad Baker (Dan Martin) interrupted the two by knocking on Deacon’s door. He had a choice to make — turn her in or give her refuge from authorities. He opted to do the latter and lied to Baker when he said he hadn’t heard from Sheila. Baker reminded Deacon that Sheila is dangerous — especially when she has nothing to lose. “You don’t have to tell me,” Deacon ironically noted.

Sheila was mistaken to think that Deacon covering for her with the cops meant he was going to continue to help her. He held his ground and ordered her out of his place — and his life. The old Deacon might have continued to shield Sheila but Sean Kanan continues to show that his character is determined to have a new and more law-abiding life. A man, perhaps, deserving of the woman he loves — Brooke Logan Forrester (Katherine Kelly Lang)? Bravo to the fan-favorite actor for always bringing complex levels to his B&B character.
