Lawrence Saint-Victor Performer of the Week on B&B

B&B’s Carter Walton is a man of few words and many muscles but he grew quiet even for him after Eric Forrester presented a novel idea on how to keep his marriage to Quinn intact while also allowing his wife to remain sexually fulfilled. Eric gave his blessing for Quinn and his company’s COO to continue their physical affair. For his role as a man, who can’t believe what’s being asked of him, Soap Hub bestows Performer of the Week for The Bold and the Beautiful honors on Lawrence Saint-Victor, who plays Carter.

Carter wasn’t sure why Eric (John McCook) had summoned him to his mansion especially as he was having a romantic evening with Quinn (Rena Sofer) the woman Carter had slept with when she and Eric’s marriage was on the rocks. Miraculously, Eric forgave Quinn and welcomed her back into his home — but not his bed because he’s dealing with erectile dysfunction. Meanwhile, Carter, also miraculously, got to keep his high-powered job at Forrester Creations despite his transgression with the boss’ wife.

Carter was left speechless by Eric’s — we’re not sure what it is, really — request? Permission? It’s hard to know how to describe what a person should feel when a man offers to let his wife keep her guy on the side. Perhaps one reason Carter’s so stunned is he can’t process why Eric would allow such a thing? This is definitely a new story direction for B&B. Eric isn’t simply looking the other way with Quinn having an anonymous hookup every now and then. He’s letting Quinn make love with someone she cares for greatly.

Eric’s not just encouraging sex — he’s encouraging his wife to continue an emotionally meaningful relationship. He may not consciously be aware of this but he’s playing with fire. And Carter’s going to provide the heat if Eric’s not careful. The COO doesn’t have many allies at work. He can’t confide in Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye), Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang), or any other member of Eric’s extended family to share what his plan is. So, we’ve seen quite a bit of Saint-Victor playing introverted and stoic. What’s he truly thinking? B&B viewers want to know.

We saw a reserved Carter when he was interacting with Ridge, but he was able to let his character’s guard down in scenes with Quinn. She’s definitely the one person with whom he can share his feelings. When Wyatt Spencer (Darin Brooks) popped in and saw his mother and her ex (and likely future) lover alone, he raised an eyebrow. Fortunately, Carter could — and did — speak to Wyatt (Darin Brooks) more forcefully. After all, Quinn’s son isn’t a Forrester, and Carter doesn’t work for him. Wyatt made Quinn and Carter’s predicament worse by telling his mother to do what Eric wants — not knowing that Eric wants Quinn to cheat on him with Carter.

Later, Eric asked Quinn to deliver a document to Carter. It was actually a personal handwritten note that told Carter he could be with Quinn for the night. Saint-Victor playing Carter being stunned makes perfect sense. There’s so much to unpack with this story on The Bold and the Beautiful. For starters, Carter, we urge you to hang onto that signed note from Eric. Your lawyer will want to laminate that piece of paper should Eric ever fire you and you file a wrongful termination suit. Secondly, if Eric has come up with this plan — and it doesn’t sound like he has — to test Quinn and Carter’s loyalty, the two have failed. Big time.

We saw Carter and Quinn succumb to their passion for one another. Time will tell how far they go, how much Eric is really willing to tolerate, and whether or not Quinn and Carter can handle the emotional mind games that Eric, no matter how well-intentioned, is playing.

Lawrence Saint-Victor is a classic B&B leading man. He’s playing Carter as feeling enigmatic as this story unfolds. That makes us unsure of what he’s going to do next. And that makes us tune in tomorrow. The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes.
