Annika Noelle’s Hope reminded viewers of The Bold and the Beautiful that kindness should never be mistaken for weakness. The heroine is firm in her resolve to give her dad another chance so, Soap Hub is bestowing Performer of the Week honors for B&B on Noelle for her passionate defense of Deacon.
Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) was relentless in reminding both Hope and Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) that Deacon (Sean Kanan) was no good. But Hope (Annika Noelle) wasn’t hearing it — especially after Ridge said that Deacon shouldn’t be around Hope’s kids (Douglas and Beth). That’s when Hope exploded at her stepdad.
“When has Deacon ever endangered a child, Ridge?” Hope demanded to know. “I realize that my father has made mistakes but I also realize he has paid the price for them…I don’t believe he has any ill intentions…my Dad is going to be a part of my life and my family’s life whether you approve or not!”
Hope was only willing to plead her case and champion her biological dad for so long. “I’m through explaining myself and defending my decision,” Deacon’s daughter said. She then stated that it was best that she and Liam (Scott Clifton) and their kids (Beth and Douglas) move out of the cabin and off Brooke’s property.”
Brooke and especially Ridge couldn’t let go of the fact that Deacon has let Hope down many times in the past. “I don’t need protection from my own father!” an exasperated Hope exclaimed as Noelle dug deep into her character’s innate need to be close to her dad. “He has changed…I have to do this…even if I get hurt in the end.”
Annika Noelle’s work wasn’t done after she pled her case and stated her boundaries to Ridge and Brooke. The next day, the actress was tasked with Hope presenting her idea of moving off the property to her Liam. Just as Ridge and Hope had concerns about Deacon so did Liam.
Hope gently but firmly pointed out to her husband that nobody’s perfect. “We know what it’s like, making mistakes [and] wanting to make up for them and we’ve allowed that of each other,” Hope shared with Liam. She didn’t say in so many words that she was referring to Liam having sex with Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) when he thought she was cheating on him with Thomas (Matthew Atkinson). (She wasn’t.)
“We’re all about second chances,” Annika Noelle’s Hope added. Next, Liam pointed out that Deacon has a criminal record to which Hope countered that Bill’s last scheme (lying to the police about poor dead Vinny) landed both him and Liam in jail, and yet, Bill’s allowed to be around their kids. “That’s actually fair,” Liam softly acknowledged.
If Hope gets her way it’ll be due in no small part to how passionately Noelle played these scenes. We can see Deacon getting another chance. The question is — will he break Hope’s heart? Whether he does or not, we can imagine that Annika Noelle will continue to deliver emotionally powerful scenes.
