Veteran soap star Sean Kanan is best known for playing Deacon Sharpe on both The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless. He has also played A.J. Quartermaine on General Hospital.

Getting Personal with Sean Kanan?

Kanan was born Sean Perelman on November 2 in Cleveland, Ohio, but he was raised in New Castle, Pennsylvania. He is of Russian Jewish and Lithuanian Jewish descent and graduated from Mercersburg Academy. He attended both Boston University and UCLA for college, where he graduated with a degree in political science.

Close Call
While filming The Karate Kid Part III, Kanan, who created the character of Mike Barnes, suffered internal bleeding after doing 20 takes of being thrown out of a door and landing on his stomach. He ended up collapsing at his Las Vegas hotel four days later and had two quarts of blood in his abdomen!

Making Movies And Writing Books
While he’s not on a soap right now, Kanan has been staying busy in front of the camera. This past year, he has completed the feature films Beyond the Law, starring Steven Segal and rapper DMX, and the sci-fi adventure film, Colonials. Currently, he’s been on a book tour, promoting his second book, Success Factor X, which he and Jill Liberman authored.

Kanan has been married to wife Michele Kanan since 2012. Together, the couple has a blended family of five children, including Kanan’s daughter Simone Andrea. The actor splits his time between Los Angeles and Palm Springs where he dedicates his time to charitable endeavors, practicing martial arts, and studying foreign languages.
