The Bold and the Beautiful recap for Wednesday, January 3, 2024, featured an intense conversation between Finn and Steffy where they worried Dark Thomas might make a comeback.
In addition, Bill and Poppy went on a date. But only after RJ cautioned Luna’s mom about going anywhere near Dollar Bill. Also, Thomas and Hope discussed Hope’s cautious rejection of Thomas’s proposal.
Apparently, Bill (Don Diamont, who recently celebrated a birthday) asked Poppy (Romy Park) out and now she’s figuring out whether she should show up. Basically, RJ (Joshua Hoffman) advised Luna’s (Lisa Yamada) mom to run — not walk — away from Bill. She’d be the better person for not having any contact with him. RJ’s not a Bill Spencer fanboy and almost his entire family can’t stand the man.
Luna, on the other hand, encouraged her mom to get back out on the dating scene. So why shouldn’t she go out with the man? If anything, it was a good opportunity to find out if Poppy and Bill knew each other back in the day. Later, RJ and Luna talked about Luna’s dad who didn’t stick around for her or for her mom. She wished he had manned up and been the father she needed.
Meanwhile, Bill told Liam (Scott Clifton) he tracked down Poppy and wanted to get to know her. Yes, Liam — for a change — listened to his dad’s issues and problems and never said anything about his own life! Instead, he wished his dad the best, and hoped this mystery woman would bring something new to his life, which he deserved.
After Poppy joined Bill at the restaurant, he said he’s now certain that the two of them met before years ago. Bill admitted he did some digging into her life and found photos online. That’s when it all started coming back to him. They met at the Golden Gate Music Festival. She was dancing, and he was noticing.
Eventually, they made eye contact and followed it up with dancing, talking, and genuinely having an amazing evening. Interestingly, Bill and Poppy continued to share some of that magical eye contact at their table.
In reply to Hope’s (Annika Noelle) oh-so-gentle rejection of Thomas’s proposal, Thomas (Matthew Atkinson) claimed he understood. However, he felt hopeful that she’ll change her response to “yes” sometime in the future. All in all, he’s happy she didn’t throw his ring back in his face. That she’s wearing it at all — it’s a good sign.

What might not be a good sign is that Hope expressed her wish that they keep this sudden, unexpected proposal to themselves. She wants the time and the space and the freedom to figure out what she wants for herself. And, besides, it’s nobody else’s business.
Thomas then recalled how people — namely, Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) — would freak out if they knew. And Dr. Finn (Tanner Novlan) probably would, too. Hope didn’t understand why he even mentioned Finn. So Thomas told her how the good doctor shut down the way he spoke to Steffy. He always wondered what Finn thought of him. Now he knew.
Finn and an irritated Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) talked about the Thomas, Xander (Adain Bradley), and Baby Beth of it all. Clearly, Finn didn’t know the entire story and once she told him, she felt he’d see that it’s not a clear cut case of murder here. Meanwhile, Finn told his wife about Xander’s claims and warnings and his version of events.
At the end of the day, this left Finn and Steffy dealing with the Thomas problem. Again, Steffy knew her brother worked hard to steady his life and become a better man. Yet, Finn felt it didn’t matter how much, how long, or in what ways Thomas worked on himself. That from here on out, they were going to have to be cautious around him. And he based this tenet on this whole Baby Beth situation coupled with Thomas’s obsession with Hope.
Steffy worried that anything could trigger another descent into darkness for Thomas. Like, maybe, Hope turning down his proposal? Does Hope need to start worrying, too?
