In The Bold and the Beautiful recap for December 14, 2023, Ridge finally decided against comfort care for his dad, causing Finn to immediately go into action mode.
Bold and the Beautiful Recap Highlights
In addition, both Thorne and Bridget weighed in on Eric’s treatment. RJ, Luna, and Poppy continued to reflect on Eric’s life. And Finn began the experimental operation.
Ridge Changes His Mind
Donna (Jennifer Gareis) stopped Finn (Tanner Novlan) from pushing life support’s off button. The doctor just wanted to know what to do. Subsequently, everybody in the room — including Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) — begged Ridge (Thorsten Kaye, celebrate a decade of the actor here) to allow the procedure to happen. They wanted him to give his dad a chance.
After standing there and saying nothing, that’s exactly what he decided. Ridge finally gave permission to do the procedure. Finn said he would get the OR prepped STAT. Meanwhile, Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood), Donna, and Brooke were relieved.
Eric’s Other Kids Weigh In
Bridget (Ashley Jones) and Thorne (Winsor Harmon) arrived at the hospital and discovered the plans to put Eric (John McCook) into comfort care — neither agreed with this decision. Once the surgery began, Thorne expressed his disbelief. Even with medical power of attorney, the decision to take Eric off life support should have only happened if Dad couldn’t be treated. His brother should have known better.

Donna apologized for Thorne only finding out about all of this now. After all, it’s what Eric wanted. Thorne cried that Dad’s other kids hadn’t been able to see him. They barely know what’s going on. Ridge yelled at his brother and asked him if he understood what quality of life meant to Dad. He may not have it after he comes out of that operating room. Otherwise, God help them.
RJ Remembers Grandad — His Hero
RJ (Joshua Hoffman) continued to talk to Luna (Lisa Yamada) and Poppy (Romy Park) about his grandad. There’s the entertainer side, and then there’s the funny, quiet side. He said Eric is his hero. He doesn’t think a lot of people get to see that. Poppy said it warms her heart to hear the kind things he’s said about his grandfather. He expressed appreciation for Luna and Poppy being there for him.
RJ wanted to be at the hospital but didn’t want to be in the way of the doctors. He wished there was something he could do to save them. Instead, RJ took a moment to flashback to some of his greatest hits with Eric.
In the Operating Room
Bridget made sure she was in the operating room assisting Finn while Ridge and everyone recapped the situation for Thorne. Finding out how close Eric was to getting his life support turned off angered him greatly. Ridge countered, saying if Eric comes out of surgery hooked up to tubes and monitors, he’s going to have to live with that. No one else.
In the operating room, Finn hoped he could create a miracle. As for Bridget, she noticed the intricacies of Finn’s cutting-edge treatment. She couldn’t believe he figured all this out. Finn consulted with hematologists overseas and made sure he had the right equipment and the right meds. But he didn’t get ahead of himself. He said they needed to take their time. Bridget was appreciative and said Steffy was very lucky to have him as her husband.
Something suddenly went wrong. Eric started hemorrhaging; his vitals started plummeting. Same with his pressure. Finn and Bridget worked feverishly to save Eric.
