The Bold and the Beautiful recap for Tuesday, December 20, 2023, continued the worry for Eric Forrester as his status remained unchanged.
In addition, emotional moments abound for RJ and Steffy. Meanwhile, Zende’s conversation with Ridge about finishing Eric’s fashion line was interrupted when the Forrester Creations co-CEO headed to the hospital with their son RJ. Now, let’s dig deeper into what happened.
Finn (Tanner Novlan) and Bridget (Ashley Jones) consulted on Eric’s (John McCook) health with Dr. Martin (Big Brother and Survivor Alum Cirie Fields). Then, Bridget opened up to Finn about her thoughts and fears for Eric. She was distraught over coming thisclose to losing her dad, but Finn reassured her that they got him back. Ultimately, Bridget wondered if Ridge was right. That they should have let Eric go peacefully. She’s not the only one who contemplated regrets about being so determined to let the experimental treatment do its magic.
Later, Brooke and Donna arrived and immediately wanted to know if Eric was going to pull through. They were worried that Eric’s status hadn’t changed. But Bridget insisted they just need to wait.
Over at Forrester Creations in the CEO office, Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) and Zende (Delon de Metz, who talks to SoapHub about what he wants for his character here) continued their conversation. Ridge let Zende know Eric would be so touched by his offer to help finish Eric’s fashion line. After all, Ridge was touched by the offer. Zende passionately talked about not being able to think about his grandad’s fate.
All he wanted to do was follow in Eric’s footsteps and work through this crisis. It’s a mission of his to finish his grandad’s vision. He knows if they all worked together, it will be Eric’s greatest collection. Once again, he said they should collaborate on finishing it. It’s not RJ’s (Joshua Hoffman) time just yet.
Zende practically begged Ridge to let him help spearhead this project. But Ridge begged to differ. He felt since RJ started this whole thing with Eric, he should end it as well. But they’ll welcome Zende’s help, which didn’t offer the young designer much solace. That’s when Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) interrupted, and she, Ridge, and then RJ left for the hospital with Zende looking all sorts of forlorn.
Luna (Lisa Yamada) listened to RJ, who was so excited his dad wanted to collaborate with him. He questioned what Eric would want — that he’d appreciate his son and his grandson finishing the line that meant so much to him. She completely understood where he was coming from.

Meanwhile, James (played by Big Brother Season 25 winner Matt Klotz), one of Katie’s PR people, filled in both RJ and Luna on the news about Eric’s health hitting the press. After James left the room, RJ said he felt greedy about being the one to spend so much time with his grandad during such a crucial time. He knows the rest of the family — especially the ones that weren’t there — won’t get the same quality time.
Back at the hospital, Ridge reiterated to Donna (Jennifer Gareis), Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang), Steffy, and Finn that they could have spared Eric all this pain and suffering and being hooked up to tubes. Finn explained to the group how they wanted to take Eric off the ventilator, but they couldn’t. Eric’s pulmonary function needed to improve first. Ridge couldn’t believe his dad was being kept alive by machines, which was the last thing Eric wanted.
RJ entered Eric’s hospital room and sat at his grandad’s bedside, where he talked about the timeless designs he had made with his hands. He loved that Eric turned to him when his hands couldn’t finish the job. It meant so much to him. RJ needed Eric to fight, and there was so much more he had to offer the world.
Then Finn supported Steffy as she let her grandad know how much he meant to her and this family. She hoped it wasn’t selfish to want him to fight to come back to them. He looked trapped, and she didn’t want him to suffer. She was sorry if his wishes weren’t followed. That it’s okay to let go if that’s what he wanted.
Zende talked to Luna about how, sometimes, he doesn’t feel a part of this family. After all, Ridge invited RJ to the hospital, but he clearly didn’t even think about inviting him. Even though Zende made sure to be there for his grandad as much as he could.
Luna was sorry for what Zende was going through. He knows his family doesn’t mean it and that they don’t mean to make him feel shut out consciously. But that’s what happens. He doesn’t want to trash talk RJ to Luna since they’re together, but he knows in his bones that finishing Eric’s collection needs someone more seasoned and that he has been working with Eric for years, not weeks. Luna said she understood his frustrations.
