As previously reported, The Bold and the Beautiful returned to work this week, making it the first scripted series to do so since shutting down in March. Now comes word that the show has hit a pause on its production.
Variety broke the news that the half-hour soap has temporarily stopped production after one day of being back on set.
The article goes on to say that the show has halted production to “better accommodate the large volume of testing needed,” according to a BB spokesperson.
A statement from the show read: “We have paused very briefly to modify our testing protocol to better accommodate the large volume of testing needed. Safety remains our top priority as we continue to move forward with the production of the Bold and the Beautiful. BB filmed with cast and crew today and it was a successful first day back at work.”
The show is going to head back into the studio next week. Taping will resume on Tuesday, June 23. Viewers could potentially see new episodes on the air sometime in July.
In May, BB was renewed through 2022. “I am thrilled to dive into years 34 and 35 of The Bold and the Beautiful,” executive producer/head writer Bradley Bell said at the time it was renewed. “We are grateful to Amy Reisenbach [Executive Vice President, Current Programs, CBS] and everyone at CBS for their incredible commitment to the series. Of course, many thanks to our loyal fans who motivate us every day with their unending passion and enthusiasm.”
BB debuted on March 23, 1987. The series was created by the late William J. Bell and Lee Phillip Bell. The show has won three Daytime Emmys for Outstanding Drama Series and is nominated for the top award again this year. The Bold and the Beautiful airs weekdays on CBS.
