Asking a young boy like Douglas Forrester to pick between the two Bold and the Beautiful parents he loves is absolutely heartbreaking. How can the kid pick one, knowing how deeply he’ll hurt the other? It’s too much to bear, especially for a child. That’s why Douglas’s choice was another brilliant move on the CBS soap.
Tasked with the impossible, Douglas (Henry Joseph Samiri) turned the tables on his custody proceedings. Asked by the judge to write down whom he’d like to live with moving forward, he calmly stood up, jotted down a name, and handed it to the official.
As fans wondered whether it would be his loving levelheaded mother, Hope (Annika Noelle), or his loving, yet unbalanced and manipulative father, Thomas (Matthew Atkinson), the kid delivered a whammy. He picked neither. Instead, he walked over to his Aunt Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and sweetly announced, “I want to live with you. Will you have me?”
The proceedings came to a halt, leaving viewers and everyone assembled in the judge’s chambers stunned and speechless. Douglas had made his choice, but it wasn’t either of his parents. Once again, The Bold and the Beautiful delivered a surprise twist, and it was brilliant.
It’s brilliant because it was totally unexpected. Remember, the night before, Douglas assured his mother that he’d choose to live with her and Liam (Scott Clifton). Yet, when decision day arrived, kind, caring Douglas weighed his options thoughtfully. Then he made the only one he could feel good about.
Surely, the kid will explain what prompted him to pick his aunt. But, let’s face it. It’s obviously based on his desire not to hurt either of his parents, not to choose one over the other. Picking his Aunt Steffy was the happy medium. Douglas has always felt loved and wanted in her home. It’s a drama-free environment where he won’t feel torn between his parents, yet they’ll still be part of his life.
The only question that remains is will Steffy take on the responsibility of raising her nephew? She has a demanding career and already has two children of her own. Adding a third will be something she’ll have to consider carefully. And, of course, her husband Finn (Tanner Novlan) will have to weigh in. No matter what Steffy decides or what turn the story takes next, Douglas’s custody case will long be one to remember.
