Since taking over the role of The Bold and the Beautiful’s Zende Forrester, Delon de Metz has had precious little to do of the exciting and fun variety. The character’s been all about designing couture fashion and not much else. But, all that changed when he suddenly developed a jealous streak and an edge — and slowly started morphing into the rousing villain Thomas once was.
The Passed Over Grandson
The impetus for the switch made total sense. Zende was perturbed after learning his grandfather, Eric (John McCook), had chosen his younger grandson, RJ (Joshua Hoffman), to help him design his final fashion collection when he thought he was dying.
As the older, more experienced designer who’d been studying his craft for years, Zende felt frustrated and passed over — and rightfully so. It was crystal clear Eric preferred his “golden grandson”, the sole offspring of Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Ridge (Thorsten Kaye).
The Troublemaker
Since the turnaround, Zende has taken every opportunity to chastise and belittle RJ while eagerly instigating a rivalry between them. He even boldly made a play for RJ’s girlfriend Luna (Lisa Yamada). And, he’s done it all with a slyness and a bit of a mischievous sense of humor.
Emerging Villain?
De Metz has thrived with every twist and turn. He’s taken Zende from dull to daring and bland to brazen in a few short months. In the process, he’s proven that he’s got what it takes to morph Zende into the rousing scoundrel Thomas once was — a bad guy you loved to hate and who’s totally intriguing. The new improved Zende has an edge and a wicked streak that’s been fun to watch. And, with any luck, the worst is yet to come as he transforms into B&B’s charming new villain.
Next week, another Soap Hub writer will take an opposing view about Zende’s shades of grey. Keep an eye out for it as Zende’s story unfolds.
