Is Bold and the Beautiful truly going to kill off Eric Forrester, played by original cast member John McCook? The Forrester patriarch is in the hospital and things aren’t looking good. On one hand, we can’t imagine the show without Eric. On the other, we said that about Stephanie, his late wife, too. Death is a fact of life, and B&B just might be going there with the beloved fan favorite.
Nothing lasts forever and McCook has had a near 37-year run on Bold and the Beautiful, having appeared in the show’s very first episode. Viewers were reminded at Eric’s party that there really aren’t that many cast members with the exception of, of course, original cast member Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke), who also appeared in the first episode, and go back more than 20 years. The reality is that time marches on and nobody stays on soaps forever.
In 2012, Susan Flannery packed it in as Stephanie after winning three Daytime Emmys and giving goodness knows how many slaps to Brooke. While B&B boasts a mostly stable cast, there have been changes throughout the years. The original Spectra gang, headed by the late great Darlene Conley (Sally), has been off the canvas for years. Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) is technically a Marone, sure, but that clan isn’t really mentioned by name anymore. Still, B&B won’t lose Eric. However, that statement could be a case of denial.
Of course, Eric may someday be written out and McCook could opt to wrap up his run on the show just as Flannery did. But, that doesn’t mean this story is going to be Eric’s last. He’s got too much living to do. Heck, there’s a Forrester mansion wedding ceremony that still needs to take place when Eric remarries Donna (Jennifer Gareis), right?
B&B isn’t opposed to killing off a family member during the holidays. We remember poor Phoebe (Mackenzie Mauzy) met her fate around Christmas time one year. The family wasn’t even sure about having a tree but the Forresters went ahead and had one anyway. What better time to give Eric — and B&B fans — a miracle by having Eric get well? Between Finn (Tanner Novlan), Bridget (Ashley Jones), and Li (Naomi Matsuda), B&B has almost as many doctors as General Hospital does. Someone’s going to come up with a cure!
We know very little about Dr. Colin Colby — other than his name would have made him a perfect fit on the series Dynasty. Seriously, the physician (played by Justiin Davis) is an unknown entity. Is he out to make Eric think he’s dying and he’s not? Or was there a simple misdiagnosis and Eric has something curable? Time will tell.
