Sheila Carter has done a lot of bad things on The Bold and the Beautiful. Some of those things can be explained away. Others, as viewers were recently reminded, not so much!
Sheila has been in and out of mental institutions and prisons over the years but somehow always manages to get released either through treachery or time served. Her crimes include shooting Taylor (Krista Allen), Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood), and Finn (Tanner Novlan); fortunately, all three survived their near-fatal wounds. However, not everyone who has crossed paths with the naughty nurse has been so lucky.
B&B has shown flashbacks to two moments in Sheila’s life when her victims met fatal finales. In 1992, Sheila was seeing Dr. Jay Garvin (who was named after one of the show’s late set decorators and was played by actor Brett Stimely). Sheila, concerned that she was being cut out of Eric’s (John McCook) life, began to panic, fearful her past in Genoa City would catch up with her. She and Jay argued on his balcony, and Jay fell to his death. Viewers saw the location footage of a lifeless Jay on the concrete.
We’ve heard Sheila’s rationale before — “it was an accident.” The truth is, Jay probably would be alive if it weren’t for Sheila’s actions.
Viewers were also reminded via flashback of Sheila’s encounter with Lance (Adam Huss; now Nikolas on General Hospital), an actor she hired to break up Rick (Jacob Young) and Amber (Adrienne Frantz) so that her daughter, Erica Lovejoy (AKA Mary Warwick, played by Courtnee Draper), could have Rick. When Sheila saw Lance as a threat, she did away with him by unleashing bees into Lance’s apartment, knowing that he was allergic to the flying insects. Maybe one could argue that Jay’s death was accidental, but Sheila certainly knew what she was doing when she unleashed those bumblebees on poor Lance.
Bill is trying to get Sheila to open up about her past, presumably so she’ll implicate herself to authorities and go to prison for a long time. It’s logical to think that actual murder charges carry a stiffer sentence than attempted murder charges. So while Sheila shooting Finn and Steffy is unforgivable and worthy of decades of jail time (at least), the naughty nurse committed a far more deadly crime by rubbing out Jay and Lance. Will the two nearly-forgotten characters get justice? Stay tuned.
