Critics of The Bold and the Beautiful have noted that the half-hour soap tends to focus on one storyline at a time. However, the show threw viewers a curveball, while in the middle of a story featuring Sheila Carter and her shooting of Steffy Forrester Finnegan and Finn, by revealing that Eric Forrester had resumed his relationship with ex-wife Donna Logan — despite being married to Quinn Fuller Forrester!
B&B wrapped up its Eric/Quinn/Carter Walton affair storyline last year when, in a surprise move, Eric (John McCook) told Quinn (Rena Sofer) that he wanted her back in his life — despite her affair with Carter Walton (Lawrence Saint-Victor). A stunned Quinn made up her mind pretty quickly that she’d reunite with Eric. She gently informed Carter that she’d be ending their relationship and returning to her life as Mrs. Eric Forrester. And so the story ended.
Or so we thought. Recently, Quinn confided in Carter that Eric had taken to sleeping in a guest room at the Forrester mansion. Despite this, Quinn showed no interest in resuming her physical relationship with Carter. Quinn couldn’t keep things just physical with Carter anyway. She truly cares about the guy; the rapport went beyond sex.
Showing that Eric had taken up with Donna Logan (Jennifer Gareis) once again is both a shock and also sets the stage for Quinn to reconnect with Carter. If Eric had remained faithful, Quinn turning back to Carter would have ruined her and given all her naysayers ammunition to tell Eric that he needs to dump the jewelry designer.
This time, Quinn is the wronged party. If and when she learns about Eric and Donna, we can count on scenes in which Quinn will let loose her fury (we’ve seen her go after Donna before) but this will also open the door for Quinn to reunite with Carter.
There’s a big difference between being a cheating wife and a faithful spouse who’s being cheated on and decides to seek comfort elsewhere. Sure, Eric’s the adulterer this time around but he likely strayed because he couldn’t get out of his head that his wife was cheating on him with a younger, attractive, extremely in-shape guy.
In a perfect world, Eric would have divorced Quinn first and then, he could have taken up with Donna. He didn’t, of course. As a result, B&B has set the stage for some big dramatic fireworks and we can’t wait to see the explosions!
