We certainly hate the things that Sheila Carter does on The Bold and the Beautiful. But thanks to nuanced performances from her portrayer, Kimberlin Brown, it’s not always easy to hate Sheila. For showing a more vulnerable side to her homicidal character, Soap Hub bestows Performer of the Week for B&B honors on Brown.
Sheila gave birth to a smart son, Dr. John ‘Finn’ Finnegan (Tanner Novlan), who knows the difference between a toe that’s been surgically removed and one that’s been gnawed off by a bear. So, the jig was up for the naughty nanny who’d been hiding out at Deacon’s (Sean Kanan) since she convinced most everyone she’d been killed by a grizzly.
And while the Forresters, the Finnegans, and others would be thrilled to know that Sheila’s leaving L.A., we couldn’t help but be moved as the lonely woman shared a tearful farewell with Deacon. A despondent Sheila asked Deacon if her face could be seen in Il Giardino security footage. When he said that she could be seen (despite her disguise), Sheila ordered Deacon to delete the video. Sure, she barked the order but you could hear Sheila’s heart-breaking, too, when she put forth her request.
Kimberlin Brown is always adept at bringing vulnerability to Sheila. Many times, she’s said all she wants is to be loved. It doesn’t take much to push the naughty nurse over the edge, unfortunately. Sheila’s capable of scaring folks but in her conversations with Deacon, we also see that she, herself, is very scared and afraid of ending up alone.
Deacon urged Sheila to turn herself in but the Sheila we know and love to hate, we suspect, would never do that. “I told you. There’s always a way out. Goodbye, Deacon,” Sheila informed her love as she disconnected their call. We were left not knowing what Sheila would do next. She did attempt to take her own life once before after holding the Forresters and their friends at gunpoint — but that effort failed.
We doubt strongly that Sheila will once again attempt to end her life. In fact, head writer/executive producer Bradley Bell has promised that Sheila will, like a phoenix, ‘rise from the ashes.’ “I’ll be a free woman again,” Sheila insisted as she stared into the mirror. “That day is coming soon.” Then, she let out one of her trademark maniacal laughs. Kudos to Kimberlin Brown for making viewers feel not only sorry for Sheila but, as always, more than a little bit afraid of her, too.
