Soap Hub Performer of the Week for B&B: Katherine Kelly Lang

The timing of The Bold and the Beautiful’s 35th anniversary coincided with Brooke Logan being in a heightened state of turmoil, which is allowing Katherine Kelly Lang to shine even brighter. For her performance as a B&B’s heroine supreme, Soap Hub bestows Performer of the Week honors on Lang.

Brooke Logan has always led with her heart. She was drawn to Ridge Forrester Thorsten Kaye) even before she met him and once the two locked eyes at a party at the Forrester home nearly 35 years ago, she knew that he was her destiny. Alas, Brooke has always been in love with love and has made some mistakes over the years.

This time, however, Brooke was pushed into making a mistake. She imbibed some alcohol on New Year’s Eve unknowingly thanks to Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown). That led to Brooke kissing her ex, Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan), and not being able to kick him out after he invited himself to a (sexless) sleepover.

So, because she doesn’t know she was drugged Brooke’s been beating herself up unnecessarily. Brooke got lost in her sorrow and recalled one of the numerous confrontations she had with her mother-in-law Stephanie Forrester (Susan Flannery). The Brooke/Stephanie dynamic has been the show’s most dynamic one. Some viewers took the side of Stephanie, a woman fighting to save her marriage and keep her family intact. Others cheered for Katherine Kelly Lang’s Brooke, hoping she’d win the heart of the man she loved.

While Stephanie and Brooke were getting along just fine when the Forrester matriarch died, Brooke couldn’t help but flashback to a time when the animosity at them was at an all-time high. Katherine Kelly Lang dug deep into Brooke’s psyche as she pondered a question that can’t help but nag at her — was Stephanie right about her all along? Was she a slut from the valley the wrong woman for Ridge?

Later in the week, Brooke’s thoughts turned away from Stephanie and to the men in her life. B&B treated its viewers to a special Brooke-centric episode in which she was revisited by many (but not all — B&B is still a half-hour serial!) of the men in her life. While Ridge is Brooke’s destiny, Lang has the ability to find truth and heart in each of Brooke’s relationships. When she’s in love, she truly believes she is and she cares deeply for her partner — be it Eric Forrester (John McCook), Thorne Forrester (Winsor Harmon), Nick Marone (Jack Wagner), or Bill Spencer (Don Diamont).

B&B saved the best for last when Brooke fantasized about tripping the light fantastic with Ridge, scored to — what else — the duo’s love theme ‘Unforgettable.’ Katherine Kelly Lang has certainly been unforgettable in her performances as Brooke — not just this week but every week for the past 35 years!

Honorable mention: We don’t get to watch four-time Daytime Emmy-winner Susan Flannery every week anymore as she gave up playing Stephanie a decade ago. However, B&B organically worked the actress into the show’s anniversary and Brooke’s storyline by showing a flashback of one of Stephanie and Brooke’s numerous scenes in which the two women squared off against one another.

“Beneath that beautiful face and body of yours is a really evil, wicked, wicked woman, who forgot a really important lesson in life – evil does not triumph over good,” Stephanie sharply informed Brooke.

“You have systematically chipped away at the integrity of our family over these years,” the matriarch added. “You’ve besmirched our name, tainted our reputation, and brought nothing but scandal and misery to us.”

Susan Flannery and Katherine Kelly Lang were a match made in soap opera heaven and kudos to both performers and the show for delivering such a sensational anniversary week!
