Soap fans know that passing references are hardly ever made in passing. Case in point: on The Bold and the Beautiful, Poppy Nozawa took some “all-natural” pills during her date with Bill Spencer. Sure, these could be harmless supplements, or perhaps the show is gearing up for another addiction storyline.
Is Poppy Too Peppy?
Bill (Don Diamont) and Poppy (Romy Park) had no sooner begun their date when Poppy started popping some pills. She declared that they were for “fortification” for all the “intense questioning” Bill was going to do. Poppy said the pills — much like Bill’s scotch — would take the edge off her nerves.
She made a good point. Having a stiff drink is accepted in society but Poppy’s pills might not be. Maybe that’s because we don’t know exactly what they do. They could be a harmless herbal drug. (Sometimes, those work; sometimes, they don’t.) Poppy has plenty of stories popping. This pill thing is probably nothing.
Bill’s Building Blocks
Bill has blown it big time with a few relationships in the past. Maybe he hasn’t cared enough when he should have but that might set him up to overcompensate now. If he’s not careful, he could end up torpedoing his budding relationship with Poppy. Over what? Some harmless pills that Poppy probably picked up at one of Los Angeles’s many, many, many health food stores? The pills might have been an impulse buy at the register. Be careful, Bill! Don’t pop your chances with Poppy even though it’s quite possible that Poppy’s pills are a problem.
Paper Dolls
B&B has done drug addiction stories before. Sheila poisoned Stephanie’s medications with mercury, causing her to get really, really sick. More recently, Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) got hooked on opioids. No good came of that. Well, actually, Steffy found Finn (Tanner Novlan) thanks to the accident that led to her addiction so you could say something great came out of that. Pill addiction is a serious matter, however. Our best bet is that Poppy’s pills will someday play into future stories. The question is…how exactly?
