Wyatt Spencer became the latest casualty of Bold and the Beautiful‘s longest-running challenge. The 30-minute soap opera has half the airtime that other soaps do so the show doesn’t have as many characters. Could Wyatt be popping up on Young and the Restless, the show on which his ex-girlfriend Sally Spectra appears?
Viewers were happy to see Wyatt (Darin Brooks) pop up on B&B this week in scenes with Don Diamont (Brad Carlton). However, we have to admit it was a smidge out of character for the show. After all, characters aren’t always given scenes that write them off the show. Flo (Katrina Bowden), Wyatt’s fiancée, just stopped appearing one day. Bridget (Ashley Jones) and Thorne (Winsor Harmon) more or less vanished after coming home to see a deathly ill Eric (John McCook). B&B keeps viewers guessing as to when we’ll see folks next and the writers keep their options open as to what characters are up to while they’re not onscreen. As a result, we don’t always know where they are.
Was there a specific reason B&B brought off-contract Brooks back to give Wyatt a send off? He turned up at the beach house that’s been the home to many B&B characters over the years (Taylor; Taylor and Ridge; Stephanie, and Wyatt himself). Wyatt broke it to Bill that he needed a change. Maybe one away from Los Angeles.
We get that there’s not major story for Wyatt right now but why not keep the character living somewhere in Los Angeles and have him pop up for occasional Spencer men dinners? The chemistry among Brooks, Diamont, and Scott Clifton (Liam) is off the charts!
Perhaps Wyatt announced he was thinking about leaving town because he’s actually leaving town and going to Genoa City, home to Young and the Restless. Yep. It’s quite possible that Wyatt is going to look up his old gal pal Sally (Courtney Hope) and see if they can renew their romance. Sally’s been in the middle of a triangle with Newman brothers Nick (Joshua Morrow) and Adam (Mark Grossman). Perhaps it’s time she turn over a new leaf — or rather an old one — and reconnect with Wyatt?
Brooks talked to Soap Hub about his chemistry with Hope last year when we sat down with him to chat about his 10-year anniversary on B&B. “Courtney’s the best,” Brooks raves. “I love her. She’s so fun. She could throw down with my adlibs and keep pace, which is always nice. I loved working with her. Sally was getting out of the Thomas thing. I think that’s when Wyatt was getting out of the Katie [Heather Tom] thing. We were ‘castaways’ when we met. The Wyatt/Sally story was very fun to play.”
There’s lots of history between the two characters. It was Sally’s obsessive nature with Wyatt that prompted her to leave Los Angeles and start over on Y&R. She connected with Lauren (Tracey Bregman) and made her way in the business world.
B&B may have dropped a big hint about Wyatt’s destination when Bill quipped to his son that he seemed “restless.” According to Twitter user Marco-Poll-o, Diamont’s reference to his old stomping grounds was in an added scene that international viewers see but domestic fans do not. Was that merely a fitting word (Wyatt is restless, after all) or a nod to Diamont’s time on Y&R as Brad Carlton? Or did the show just let us know where Wyatt will turn up next?
