In Defense of Brooke and Hope on The Bold and the Beautiful

Brooke Logan Forrester has done a lot of unforgivable things over the decades on The Bold and the Beautiful. Remember the time she slept with Deacon Sharpe despite his connection to her daughter Bridget? Or the time she accidentally had sex with Oliver Jones when she thought he was Ridge? (And he thought she was Hope?) Recently, however, Brooke may have crossed a line — even for her!

Dr. Taylor Hayes (Krista Allen), a world-renowned psychiatrist and also, Steffy Forrester Finnegan’s (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) mother, explained to Brooke that Steffy was protecting herself by not remembering her husband Finn Finnegan (Tanner Novlan) and instead believed she was still wed to Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton). As Liam is currently wed to Hope Logan Spencer (Annika Noelle), Brooke raised an eyebrow and noted that it wouldn’t be right for Steffy to go on thinking this.

Really, Brooke? While a few weeks have gone by since Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) shot and killed Finn and shot and gravely wounded Steffy, it’s only been a matter of days (if even that) in B&B storytime. You couldn’t give Steffy a little time? But here’s the thing — as B&B viewers are aware, Liam has vacillated back and forth between Steffy and Hope for years.

Liam Spencer’s Past Actions

At one point, he had impregnated both women. He left Steffy to be with Hope who was carrying Beth. After it appeared that Beth had died, well, Liam started spending more and more time with Steffy and their daughter Kelly. After it was revealed that Beth was alive, Liam made a beeline back to Hope and Beth and quickly remarried Hope.

Then, it wasn’t too long before Liam suspected that Hope was being unfaithful with Thomas Forrester (Matthew Atkinson) — who was actually making out with the Hope mannequin. So, what did Liam do? He went back to Steffy, got drunk, and had sex with her.

The Bold and the Beautiful – Hope for the Future

Maybe Brooke and Hope are basing their concerns and fears about what Liam might do if he spends time with Steffy on his past behavior — and not because they’re unsympathetic to Steffy’s condition.

For over 35 years, Katherine Kelly Lang has played Brooke as a woman who has led with her heart and someone who puts her family first. Liam has broken Hope’s heart many times in the past and Brooke’s reaction to Liam spending time with Steffy is understandable. It’s not like Brooke went running into Steffy’s room and started waving Finn’s death certificate or Hope and Liam’s marriage license under her nose.

Now that Steffy’s been brought up to date on current reality — she and Liam are not married, and Steffy’s husband Finn is dead, it is, as Friends character Joey Tribiani once said, ‘a moo point.’ (Actually, the word is ‘moot.’) However, even though Steffy knows Liam isn’t her husband, this doesn’t mean that Hope shouldn’t be concerned. All she has to do is look at Liam’s track record to see why.
