A Critic’s Review of The Bold and the Beautiful: This Is As Good As It Gets

When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of B&B’s week that was.

The Bold and the Beautiful: A Critic’s Week In Review

The roles of Thomas and Martha Wayne will now be played by John “Finn” Finnegan (Tanner Novlan) and Steffy Forrester Finnegan (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood). No, seriously folks, I half expect The Bold and the Beautiful’s Monday episode to serve as the origin story for Kelly Spencer, Los Angeles favorite animal themed vigilante, who’ll spend her waking hours ridding the streets of scum and pursuing the dreaded Cackler AKA Gramma Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown).

Speaking of Kimberlin Brown, I’ve asked myself time and time again why Bold and Beautiful bothered to bring her back when all they were going to have her do was sexual harass Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan) and constantly flashback to her one evil deed – which, if you haven’t been watching since January 1, was switch labels on non-alcoholic champagne and the real McCoy.

After watching last week’s offerings, I now know. Kimberlin Brown is a damn revelation, a fact I’d nearly forgotten considering she’s been so under and misused on this soap. Luckily, she’s finally been given some material worthy of her considerable talents.

Now that the praises have been sung, let’s get down to the nitty gritty. The Bold and the Beautiful did Finn, and Tanner Novlan all kinds of wrong.

If that assessment sounds too harsh, I suggest disbelievers and naysayers look no further than the montage of Steam’s greatest hits that was inserted into Friday’s show, when Steffy’s husband was barely cold.

If that’s a disgrace, then I don’t know what is. I’d implore The Bold and the Beautiful to do better, but I know it’s futile. I’m pretty sure that this is as good as it’s going to get.

Further B&B Musings

* Why would Ridge Forrester (Thorsten Kaye) have Deacon’s phone number programmed into his phone and vice versa? And while we’re on the subject, is anyone else surprised that Ridge has yet to blame Finn and Steffy’s shooting on Deacon? Because, as we all know, everything is Deacon’s fault. Even the smog in LA is Deacon’s fault.

The Bold and the Beautiful (BB) airs weekdays on CBS. Check your local listings for airtimes. For more about what’s coming up in Los Angeles, check out all the latest that’s been posted on B&B spoilers, and for an in-depth look at the show’s history, click here.
