A Critic’s Review of The Bold and the Beautiful: The Funny & Not-So-Much

When it comes to The Bold and the Beautiful, every fan has their own opinion – and Soap Hub is no different. For five days, we sat and watched the good, the bad, and everything in between, and now we offer you a handy review, and a cheeky critique, of B&B’s week that was.

The Bold and the Beautiful: A Critic’s Week In Review

Once again there was very little in the way of actual forward momentum where the plots were concerned, but The Bold and the Beautiful did manage to both tickle and excite me.

First, the funny. Grace Buckingham’s (Cassandra Creech) immediate reaction to seeing Paris Buckingham (Diamond White) and Carter Walton (Lawrence Saint-Victor) was comedy gold. Where were that woman’s smelling salts? I feared that she would faint!

Second, I hollered, actually hollered when Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) turned and locked eyes with partner-in-sleaze Mike Guthrie (Ken Hanes). That was a reunion that I did not see coming, and it was a surprise that was so, so welcomed.

If only the rest of The Bold and the Beautiful had been so amusing.

I wasn’t worried for a minute that Quinn Fuller Forrester (Rena Sofer) would actually cotton on to her hubby’s extracurricular activity nor did I need to read the spoilers to know that Eric Forrester (John McCook) and Donna Logan’s (Jennifer Gareis) affair is going to continue being far more on than it is off.

Lord knows I could have done without two days of Quinn and Carter having the same roundabout discussions. I get it! Carter thanks Quinn walks on water, Quinn is under the impression that Eric hangs the moon and the sun and stars, and even though they are still hella attracted to each other, Quinn and Carter won’t be resuming their affair. I got those points when they were made last week and the week before.

Then there was the never-ceasing Brooke/Ridge/Taylor love triangle. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again – why do either of these women want him? Granted, Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) always chose Taylor (Krista Allen) over Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang), until he finally didn’t, but even when Ridge and Taylor were together Ridge was always hedging his bets and doing his damnedest to keep Brooke from settling down with another man.

And when is it ever going to dawn on Brooke that the minute she makes Ridge feel like he’s anything other than only priority he’ll leave her again?

I’ll tell you this right now Bold and the Beautiful fans, and you can agree or not, but Ridge didn’t really leave Brooke because she kissed Deacon Sharpe (Sean Kanan) and lied about it by omission. That was merely the ammunition that he needed to storm off.

Ridge already checked out the minute Brooke put Hope Logan Spencer’s (Annika Noelle) feelings above his. He couldn’t stand that his wife didn’t bow to his demands, but he couldn’t actually abandon her over his pride and ego being wounded; too many people would have judged him harshly and he would have been seen as the bad guy he truly is.

Further B&B Musings

* The Bold and the Beautiful Line of the Week:

Bill to Ridge: “Why are you living at your daddy’s house sucking your thumb like you’re the injured party, feeling sorry for yourself?”

We’d all like an answer to that Bill.

* I fully understand that TPTB is attempting to kick the ‘Finn Is Really Alive And Being Hidden’ storyline into gear, but couldn’t the writers have come up with a better beat than Li Finnegan (Naomi Matsuda) practically outing herself with the tenses that she used when referring to Finn (Tanner Novlan)?

* Welcome back Don Diamont and Heather Tom! Long time, no see. Here’s hoping that The Bold and the Beautiful will see fit to give you an onscreen storyline rather than continue to let it play out through random updates via dialogue.
